I am far more concerned with the fact that your attitude suggests you in some way agree with the stupid things than your lack of knowlege of how they work. Just think of it as this, you helped it run out of film a wee bit quicker and may have saved some poor innocent person their driving license.

I know, but there's many people who don't know a Gatso from a Truvelo and also think trafficmate cameras are speed cameras...or motion detectors on temporary traffic lights are cameras etc etc..
The Truvelos are (I think) the yellow boxes (Gatso size or thereabouts) facing you on your own side of the road, and they have two circular lenses or windows. The smaller of the two lenses is to the right and a little lower than the main one. Is that right?
I saw one of these last week as I travelled east on the A631 near Maltby Police Station, just in case anyone knows the area.

For speed cameras, Truvelo has circular apertures (Edit: as Dave said), Gatso round.
Gatsos are capable of taking forward-facing shots, but they are not legally admissable for prosecution in this country.
Note also that Truvelos do not flash, so you'll often not know you've been stung until the tax demand (sorry, Notice of Intended Prosecution) hits the doormat.

Ah good, thanks for that Gary. I do feel this speed camera business is something I ought to know about. You never know, I might just accidentally stray slightly over a speed limit one of these days.

I let a woman off for speeding the other day...52mph in a 40mph zone, just because she reminded me of my Mother....
I'm losing my Judge Dredd image....Had to go mad and blitz some fog lighters to make up for it..

I had read on a scamera website about the fact that gatso's can't prosecute if they are set off by forward facing. What was slightly worrying me was there were markings on both sides of the roads...
Can't say i was particularly impressed with myself, however, it was another one of these blasted 50mph zones in the middle of nowhere with absolutely no built up areas - what flaming good do they serve anyway..? If you can drive somewhere at 50mph, you can damned well do 60mph IMO <humph>
Good job i am out of the country for a while in a few months time, if i did get prosecuted that would be me up to 9 points (how to make yourself sound like an inept driver in one post....
) - even though they were all in perfect conditions on empty roads and within i feel acceptable margins of the speed limit

If it is a gatso on the other side of the road and it flashes as you're going towards it, it means the unit is not loaded with camera or film.
