Why do lorry drivers use their fog lights?

Why do a proportion of lorry drivers use their foglights all the time? I thought they were supposed to be proffessionals?

Do the BiB ever pull them for it?

Or are some of them complete Numpties too?

Yes. They`re usually the truckie version of laxxers, with loads of chrome, blue leds and various bits of tat bolted to their trucks. Muppets.

I've noticed this lately as well. I'm not sure if some of them are "driving lights", but even if they are, they aren't needed. I don't seem to get dazzled by them, as I do with fog lights.
If they are fogs, fine the tw@s.

In theory, you should never ever see driving lights, as they are auxilliary lights that only come on when high beam is selected. As soon as another vehicle is coming the other way, you flick back to dipped beam. Ergo driving lights do exist, but should never be seen by anyone.

As you know it's my pet hate...

I pull whatever vehicle is displaying fog lights in clear conditions...

Usually ask them to identify something at 100m+ and if they can (which they will be able to do, as it's clear conditions)....I point out that fog lights are for seriously reduced conditions and issue the £30 FPN, everytime....

Oh yes they do! Lots of cars have their rear fogs on unnecessarily. You try flashing your front fogs at them, then headlights, but it's as if they don't realise. Therefore it must be the dogs.

I used to knock my Omega front fogs on with my knee when getting in & out all the time. Pain in the ass it was. Mind you the headlights were crap, still no excuses.

We had an Omega on Pro-active, but as I'm only 6'1" it wasn't any problem...

Reminds me of a time my brother in law got pulled by someone who obviously has the same pet hate.

To set the scene, it was late at night on a quiet road. BiB pulls over my BiL, BiL is a bit confused as to why.

BiB: Please turn your engine off.
BiL: (Does so; lights turn off automatically as its an Alfa)
BiB: Why did you turn your lights off?
BiL: Can't help it - the car's designed that way.
BiB: Ok, please re-start your car and turn the lights back on.
BiL: (complies)
BiB: Why do you have your front fog lights on?
BiL: I don't.
BiB: Yes you do.
BiL: No I don't.
BiB: Come and have a look.
BiL: (does)
BiL: They're sidelights.
BiB: On your way.

So were they sidelights or did he have his fog lights on at first..

Sidelights. Definately.
Its just that they're (as standard) mounted below the headlights. Level with and next to the fog lights, as it happens.
They're not very bright, though (the lights, the lights, damnit!) so I guess the officer in question just had a real "thing" about lights!

Did it myself with one car....when it was on dipped lights...can't remember the make/model..

Xedos 6 perhaps, or mazda 626..can't remember....

When I got to the front of the car, I realised that they weren't fog lights. I'd not mentioned to the driver the reason why I'd stopped him. However, as his tax disc was 6 months out of day and he subsequently failed to produce a current insurance certificate...all wasn't lost...
