Driving off without paying!

This is a beauty. I currently drive a company car and pay for all of my fuel using an overdrive card.
At the beggining of november it seems i have been accused of driving off without paying for my fuel. The officer investigating this matter has spoken to my company car co-ordinator and the girl who deals with the car for the lease company and both have confirmed that i would have nothing to gain from driving off without paying for my fuel. He however retorted with this is an offiical complaint and that i could be arrested for it!
Now a number of things don`t add up from my point of view which makes this even more ridiculous, apparantly i filled my car with £62 of fuel. I drive a renault megane 1.9dci which has a 60L fuel tank, now i don`t remeber at any point diesel costing more than £1 a litre.
Also i put £32 of diesel in my car the following day and i only covered 150 mile or so between putting over 60L into my renault super tanker and then filling up again! this has all been pointed out to the investigating pc by the lease company who record my mileage every time i fill up etc. My car comfortably averages 45 mpg on the motorway!
i just can`t believe that a police officer is wasting his time on this. Not to mention the time i have wasted trying to get hold of the guy so i can explain my side of the story and point out that this is not possible!

The police officer isn't wasting his time...He has to investigate a complaint or HE gets done for neglect of duty...
i don`t really mean it like that but it seems silly that he hasn`t spoken to me about it but all of my colleagues!
I very rarely use the garage, it is a service station on the M1 south bound and i try and avoid them unless they are BP so i can get my nectar points!! They even have a picture of the chap stealing the petrol so i would be intrigued to see who it is cos i am pretty sure it won`t be me!

The things that the police are required to investigate and undertake nowadays is unbelievable...
Schoolyard fights between 10 year olds, parking disputes, next doors hedge being too tall etc etc..
It's no wonder are detection rates and presence on the streets are suffering...
...people are phoning the police now for things they wouldn't have dreamed of complaining about before...

I wrote down the number, phoned the police, phoned my boss.
Next Day I'm accused of making it up.
The number is registered to one of my teachers (I was in the sixth form) and they think I'm trying to get him into trouble.
The only reason they finally believed me is that another Customer Witnessed it and gave me his name and address and when they eventually followed it up, it turned out he was a local magistrate.
Whether the number was cloned or the teacher was a criminal I have no idea, but I've been a little wary of the police now for the last 20 years.

Personally, i can imagine being a teenager accused by a copper of malicious (whatever it is) when you're actually trying to do the right thing to be rather upsetting and disturbing.
And I can understand his point - my first experience of traffic cops was a lecture / discussion of what I'd done wrong, and a caution. As a result, I've been a big supporter of flesh-and-blood cops as opposed to "automation" ever since.
Is that something I should have got over???
Things are progressing now, haev actually spoken to the PC doing the investigating, a decent guy. He says that he has to investugate blah blah, but seemed pretty intereseted in the fact that my car can`t hold the £65 of fuel i stand accused of stealing! He is gonna get back in the next few days. Sounds like it could just have been a mistake on the garages part but we shall see.

I was commenting that I felt a flesh-and-blood copper exercising discretion when confronted by an obviously bricking-himself 21-year old did a far better job of traffic enforcement than would an immobile, inflexible camera. Which was my impression from encountering a copper for the first time.

Seems like tis sorted, the garage are now `not sure` about their original statement. I was there it seems but just by coincidence it looks like some other thieving git has nicked fuel and i have been blamed! The PC is gonna not proceed any further, mainly based on the fact that i cant fit the amount of fuel in my car i am accused of pinching!

My dealings with the police as a LAW abiding citizen, have not swayed me from the belief that the recruitment policy and training can always be improved. We are all human, it's just they pick a bloke with a chip on his shoulder, give him scant training, make him work long hours and expect him to tell the difference between a criminal and a bloke that looks a bit dodgy. It's not their fault and I truely forgive them.
Then again I once got stopped after overtaking an Unmarked drugs squad car doing 90 in a 30 (I was 17) and I think he was VERY reasonable in his cautioning of me. Listen you dickhead, I could book you but I can't be arsed actually . Went down well, and thanks to him I survived the next 20 years in tact.
