Real life story in several parts, one of the old guys is my Dad:
Late summer 2004, around 11pm - Midnight. Small Derbyshire village/town called Riddings. 2 old boys walking home from the local club, had 1-2 pints, but weren't drunk (not that it matters). One 71 years old, looks like your classic old bloke with a flat cap. The other a pensioner too, walking stick and replacement hip meaning he walks with a big limp.
They cut down an alleyway towards their part of town and a bunch of 5-6 Asian lads aged 18ish fall into step behind them. Both blokes realise they're there, not much they can do about it now. 'Bravest' lad starts to mimick limping guy while his mates laugh. Same lad then kicks walking stick away from old boy. As old boy stoops to pick it up the lad pushes him with his foot so he goes down on his knees. Other old boy is standing to the opposite side. Rest of young lads about 10 paces behind.
So what happens next?

other old boy goes for the scrote, they all run off, police later charge old boys with racially motivated assualt?
by my power of deduction, you arent happy with the way things went - hence justice? rather than justice!
thus my post is a fairly cynical - 'you couldnt make it up' 'were all going to hell in a handcart' themed post.
am i close?

Could be like one a job from last year in my town...
Woman gets handbag stolen by youth who runs away.....good samaritan chases after the lad and 'detains' him...but suffers a bloody nose in the process (samaritan's nose)...
At court the youth was given 6 months, the samaritan commended for his actions and went on to receive £100 at an awards ceremony for a citizens against crime nomination.
Think positive people!
Although, I doubt very much that the outcome of this thread will be very positive....and yes it peeses me off big style...we are the poor relations to Europe when it comes to crime and punishment.

So the old boy picks up his stick, still on his knees. As he comes to stand he swings around with the stick in his hand and hits brave boy no1. smack on the bridge of his nose. Lad goes over. At this point the rest of the lads pitch in. Old boy with stick grabs one lad and turns him, smacking him onto a parked car (setting alarm off and causing neighbours to put lights on come out and see what the noise is about). Lad goes down on the ground.
Meanwhile, other bloke has intercepted another lad and thrown him into a hedge (big privet thing, lad couldn't lift himself out), then get's set on by another lad who he decks. Third lad heads to help mate out of hedge and old the boy grabs his legs and helps him over the hedge with a bit of a thump.
Result - 5 young men out of action, 2 old boys fine apart from a bruise on guy with walking stick's side where he body checked the second attacker.
By this time lots of neigbours had come to their doors, but nobody came to help. Seconds later a police car and a van pull up (they must have been very close by, good response though). They grab all parties and separate them IYKWIM. 5 lads off in the van to be processed before they know it. 2 old blokes give details, brush themselves down and head home for a much needed drink.
Seems the guy with a limp was a tough old Irishman who takes no nonsense and the other guy (my Dad) is more than handy with his fists (he was flooring my 25 year old younger brother mock fighting last night - and my brother is a low to medium-grade Karate student).
Guess what happens next ...
Brave boy no1 had to go off to Queens Med or somewhere, ambulance called from Police Station. Rest of lads cautioned and sent home. Bloke with stick then gets letter telling him he's being sued by brave boy for ambulance and other costs. No charges on any of the young lads. Blokes decide to just pay the amount (around 700 pounds) 50/50 as the solicitor told them he could possibly win the case, but there would be 850 pounds cost for his time plus court costs, and it could go against them.
Sometimes you just wish the Police would do a bit more to help ... old bloke was acting in self defence, with his walking stick which he was genuinely using.
Nothing against the Police here, just moaning at the system.

Not surprised anymore...it all boils down to witnesses and the willingness to challenge the system:
If they attack you in the dark and win, you've no witnesses.
If they lose, they've got each other as witnesses.
Even if you have a witness, they'll push the system 'cause they've probably won before, and even if they get convicted, it'll be a pathetic slap on the wrist which they'll laugh off, courtesy of our overly-liberal courts (where it comes to violent crime, at least).
If they've got a witness, you'll be advised not to fight it because of the risk, and being a law-abiding citizen and fearing our courts, you don't want the hassle from something SOMEONE ELSE has started.

s in society today...they can and do get away with it!!!
