I may well be picking up a second hand car from a private seller tonight.

The tax expired on it yesterday, and under the new tax rules I’d have had to tax it anyway.

Problem is, despite numerous searches of the DVLA website, I can’t figure out how I’m supposed to tax it before driving it home tonight.

Anyone got any idea what I’m supposed to do? Understand I can do it from the number on the new keeper supplement, but do I have to do that online/by phone before I drive away?

Seems like a system that is designed to catch people out.

Follow the "New Keeper Supplement" route : https://www.taxdisc.service.gov.uk/

(just tell it you don't have the V11)

Cheers.

Would need to do it before I drove away though presumably?

Could chance it and wait until I got home and had a proper internet connection.

This seems like another ballache for buying a car.

Think of the amount of tax that will be gained when people forget to untax their car when they sell it on.

If this is serious, where have you been hiding for the past 6 weeks / dozens of threads?
