sending a package by courier, sale of insurance question
Discussion
Hope a legal type person or maybe a courier can answer this one for me please, I've trawled through Google and the ABI and FCA but can't find insurance or transit of goods mentioned at all.
Basically if a courier was to sell insurance for "total Loss" of goods he was to transport for a consumer:
Does he have to be regulated to sell me that insurance and if so by which agency?
Does he have to provide me with details of the cover, including definitions of the various terms or otherwise make them available to me?
Does he have an obligation to establish that the insurance is suitable for my needs before selling it to me?
Thanks in anticipation.

I would check the terms of the courier agreement. It may be the the courier is accepting liability under contract for loss or damage to goods carried on an all risks basis. He may then purchase goods in transit insurance in his own name to protect himself against such a liability arising under contract. If your goods are lost or damaged, you would make a contractual claim against the courier, rather than a claim against the insurance policy (although in practice you may deal directly with the insurer).
This is subtly different to selling you insurance.
