Truvelo D-CAM - Speed cam + red light cam & works both ways
Discussion

Bit of an old article (March '14), but has been granted UK type approval and now apparently in use in West Yorkshire.
According to the spiel it can act as both a red light camera and a speed camera at the same time. Moreover, it can be used for both front and rear photography.
article said:
The camera operates as a speed camera during amber, green and amber-to-red grace phases, taking a single image. Once the amber grace period has passed, the camera switches to red light enforcement mode and takes two images. The first shows true speed and offending vehicles or motorcycles straddling the stop bar; the second confirms that a red light offence has taken place.
The D-CAM’s approval for both front and rear photography not only allows a single camera to be rotated on its post to monitor two different sensor arrays but also enables live enforcement in two directions at the same time – referred to by Truvelo as simultaneous bi-directional (SBD) enforcement. A fixed camera can be used to carry out front plate captures on vehicles travelling in one direction and rear plate captures on vehicles travelling in the other, with the secondary speed check markings positioned at the same point on the road.

Anyone encountered one in their travels?
Wakefield Council have installed 2 on Leeds Road, Outwood WF3, and 2 on the B6273 Hemsworth to Fitzwilliam Rd WF9. Both 30 mph limits. WF3 cameras positioned on a Traffic Island. One is painted grey, the other yellow. The 2 near Hemsworth are indistinguishable from street lights and I guess will be raking it in.

The two "accidents" in WF3 weren't speed related. In the first a man in his 70's had a heart attack and plowed into parked cars, in the 2nd a drunk Hi-Lux driver rammed a restaurant front on purpose.
The cameras in Hemsworth were in response to an off-duty Police Officer hitting and badly injuring someone at 44mph on a zebra crossing whilst "not in control" of their vehicle.

I don't think it's the same thing, but something similar has cropped up on a section of road at Swineshead on the A17. The section in question is a 40 limit and has a railway crossing in the middle of it. There is already a speed camera there.
As I said, similar looking. May not be a speed camera though. Could be something to do with the crossing.

Possibly a red light camera for the crossing. Not that uncommon. As I said, similar looking. May not be a speed camera though. Could be something to do with the crossing.
Soulbury Road, linslade (Bedfordshire) has one just fitted.
This is not a particularly fast or dangerous road. There has been a couple of shunts in the last 5 years on this road, but they were not speed related and due to drivers not giving way at a "give way to oncoming cars" point.
The reasoning behind spending money on this is lost on me other than pleasing a local Councillor.
