I never liked visiting Cumbria anyway. Obviously as a driver of a fast car I'm too dangerous to visit anyway. Forgetting the fact that people who can afford fast cars have a disposable income which could prop up the local economy. Never mind, lots of nicer places to visit anyway (we went to the Lake District once and couldn't see what all the fuss was about - nothing special IMO).

They'll have difficulty making their 2 separate offences stand up in court... Relying on people just paying up as usual, but hopefully getting pinged twice within seconds and ending up with a £120 fine and 6 points will annoy people enough to try and challenge it.

There's been some interesting discussion on the CSCP forum over the past few days. The long and short of it is that CSCP don't know what they're doing and in my opinion they have been given duff advice.

I commented that they should put FOUR vans in a line and then ban every car that they catch speeding!

I agree, surely if you drive for 2 miles at a consistent 10mph over the posted limit you only commit one continuous offence of speeding?.

ffs, I'm sick and tired of the BBC creating the impression that speeding and deaths are always directly linked, so I have complained about this.

Of course it is about money ....accidents occur up here ... but would say good many not speed related.


The A74 pile-up (yesterday) .. bad weather conditions - ungritted roads and high winds - were more than likely the main cause here.... and the road was closed because of chemical leakage.

Then there are deaths which occur because we have some dangerous bends here and the skills to deal with this are just not taught.

Other deaths .. poor visibility at certain road junctions, tired drivers, boy racers and some drink driving offences.

Speed is not the casue per se .. and Callaghan knows this deep down .. but he needs those vans for his income and business plans .. he was not copping enough people.

Yes .. my wife will be on sooner of later .. but she is busy in kitchen and making all those feminine last minute touches for a family party ....

Been thinking, Many people think as I do, that the lake district is too overcrowded to visit. too many double yellows, parking fees that you need a mortgage for, overpriced, and now this. Well that should solve the problem of overcrowding Steve!
