who is resposible?
Discussion
I had a new central heating system put in 3 years ago, fixed price from plumber who sourced all the bits and fitted it. Now the new stainless water tank he fitted (25 year guarantee) is leaking. I gave him (plumber) a call he had a look confirmed its the tank and said "not me call the manufacturer". Called the manufacturer and they have said its the supplier.....
My question is, who is responsible for sorting it?
Any advice most welcome....

Interesting - I'd take the other view in that if the plumber sold you the tank (and fitted it) then he is responsible for it when/if it goes wrong. He will have made a profit on selling it to you and the cost of swapping it for a new one is one of the things his profit has to cover.
If, on the other hand, you handed him the tank and asked him to fit it, I'd say it's for you to chase up with whoever you bought it from and to pay the plumber to swap it over.
Oli.

The plumber is responsible for any defect covered by the SoGA.
It would be unreasonable for the plumber to be responsible for a 25 year guarantee offered by the manufacturer.
Question here is, which camp does it fall under?
Probably both to be honest so go down the route of least resistance.

Manufacturer's guarantee = manufacturer's problem.
IMHO.
Your next issue is - if they replace the tank who will pay for the labour..
I think in this case I would be looking for your guy to do that FOC or at a seriously reduced rate as good will.
Not that he has too - but, it would seem fair given he sourced the part.
