Truth is, we're easy targets. In my experience, generally, we get left alone. I've had a trafpol car overtake me on the A35 in Dorset when I've been >50mph, I kept to the left, so he could see round me, and away he went. It wasn't till he was alongside I saw the lights on the roof (very dark in Dorset). Pulled back in, and flashed his indicator to thank me.

I'm hoping next time I meet him, he's not been briefed to get the numbers up for the month.

Sigle carriageway road, national limit, 60mph for cars, 40mph for anything over 7.5 tonnes

dude, chill out how the f**k am I supposed to know that, I don't after all drive a truck! honest question deserves a reasonable response IMO. now, if it had been a car related question that I didn't know then by all means roll eyes, take the p1ss whatever, but a truck? dude... anyway thanks for setting me straight

Funny that. the only speeding ticket I have is from doing 39 in a 30. Also in a HGV coming out of the back end of a very sleepy village trying to get enough speed to get up the Firking enormous hill. The camera is there IMHO to stop people coming down the hill and speeding into teh village.
I was at the time also on an Emergency(electricty supply) in a Thunderstorm, of which people where of Supply... oK no excuse but you never know whos off electric..Hospital or empty house so you try and get there ASAP. Our most Busy time.. Explained this with the Fine and they said notheing they could do about it Thanks no wonder people lose faith

Not taking the piss mate, as towman said, it's the stupidity of the speed limit that the rolleyes was for.
I don't know when they set the 40mph limit for trucks, but I'm sure it was back when they all had drum brakes with wooden shoes. Everything I've driven in the last 3 years or so has at least ABS, and a lot of the new stuff is discs all round. The last full time employer I worked for gave me a Volvo FH12 460 burp. Behind it was a brand new pet reg'd tank. That had discs and ABS. When I pressed the middle peddle, even at 44 tonnes, that bugger stopped, and I mean STOPPED. We could easily deal with a bit extra on the speed limit for us, lets face it, most trucks travel at about 50 anyway.

Yes 40 limit was indeed brought in when the likes of the AEC Mandator was the dogs wossnames, haha!

Didn't go very well by standards today, (think skin/rice pudding) and as for the brakes, bit like the curate's egg. Of course no ABS.

It just makes any cross country journey on a SC route a nightmare these days in respect of making progress.

Heavies driving at 40 for licence preservation, ghost and real islands inserted to prevent overtaking, cameras at what used to be good overtaking spots, more white paint than B&Q distribution depot.

Country gone to hell in a hand basket.

Oh well, bad luck; join the majority of drivers who have been fined for similar and who are also accident-free, probably because they spend all their time driving well to avoid accidents.

Pretty soon, sensible insurance companies will lower their premiums for such drivers on account of their obvious concentration on what really matters. Or maybe not...just a thought...
