Just a quick one, as I don't have the paperwork with me, nor have I had to do this before...

- Mechanic had my car for Service/MOT
- Letter through the Post a few days later 35 in a 30
- Spoke with mechanic/got details from him, filled forms out, posted back

How do I know the forms have been received / sent to relevant party (mechanic) / mechanic has replied / Police have processed etc. etc.

Should I phone to follow it up? Is any further action required on my part?

Thanks this is what I wanted to know really. I don't have the forms with me so didn't know if there was a number to call and follow up. Will do that when I get chance just for peace of mind they've revived the response. There was some jargon on the paperwork about hefty fines/failure to reply etc.

Yes - it's 6 points and a fat fine (and increased insurance costs) upon conviction for failing to reply to a lawful s.172 request..

^^This^^

OP, the only thing that matters is whether your response has been received and that your S.172 obligation has been complied with.
The next stage is between the police/SCP and the party you nominated. Nothing further to do with you.

If TPTB confirm they have received the completed form(s) from you, chill out and have a beer
