Do MOT details show up on Police ANPR?
Discussion
If we're talking mobile ANPR, then it depends if a copy of the MoT database has been uploaded to the ANPR equipment. Or the mobile ANPR kit could be using the live MoT database, checking against it whenever it 'sees' a vehicle registration mark (I doubt this second scenario, though, as it costs serious money to upgrade the ICT infrastructure to use live databases like this - the Insurance database used in mobile ANPR is a copy of the live database and can be some days old, for example
).
If the mobile ANPR is using MoT database information, it will 'flag up' a vehicle which appears to be sans MoT. There are genuine reasons for driving an unMoTed vehicle, such as driving to a pre-booked MoT test.
I would expect - assume, anyway - that 'static' police ANPR to just log vehicle registration marks in the normal scheme of things, with extra info (such as MoTs) being checked only when there are 'special' operations in force.
So many variables, and no 'right' answer apart from "it depends"

.I got stopped last Saturday by an anpr equipped car for no MOT so they do flag up. After 20 minutes of trying to convince plod that my car was exempt they let me on my way. It seems the database works but the police and whatever system that's used are not aware of the law. Car I was driving was made in 1955. It was my first time out in the car since I bought it but now MOTd as I don't need the hassle of being pulled every time I go out in it.

I wouldn't pay for an MOT if my car didn't need one. I would just put a sticker on the back that says To Police: Cars before 1960 do not need an MOT, mine is 1955 lol.The ANPR's should be designed to not flag up cars made before 1960 that don't have an MOT. Why wouldn't they integrate that into the ANPR's?

If it wasn't for the fact I'm an MOT tester and I'd already checked it over so I knew it was OK and also it didn't cost me anything I wouldn't have bothered, I still got advisories though.

What about cars that are over 3 years old, if a car has never had an MOT is it possible that such a car won't set off an ANPR camera because an MOT hasn't "expired" in the first place, so to speak?
It still requires an MOT so in theory it would flag up. Why not get it done? It's just a matter of luck, I rarely see BiB in my travels but they seem to find me at the most inconvenient times. My daughter inadvertently drove for 6 months with no tax, travelled between Plymouth and Liverpool twice monthly and even got pulled over at one point and it was never picked up until I pointed it out to her when she noticed she'd never completed a change of address on her V5 18 months earlier.

It's PNC that would be the issue, it just looks at the mot field and it doesn't know the law, so wouldn't know whether the vehicle requires one (same for new cars)The ANPR's should be designed to not flag up cars made before 1960 that don't have an MOT. The officer however should have been able to check very easily.
I agree about not paying for an mot of you don't need one.
Discussion on classic car sites suggests that some owners of pre 1960 cars elect to have MoT tests because they value having the car looked at by someone other than themselves or their tame mechanic every so often. My particular perv is for cars of the 1970s and 80s, so this doesn't affect me, but if I was into the 50s I might get my heap tested anyway.

An MOT test is a motoring bargain, a trained person looks over your vehicle for the best part of an hour and produces a printed report of its condition for £50, that's value.
I don't think you get a printed report of the cars condition. The only report I get is from the emissions test, and the MOT certificate has a space for advisories which is usually blank.
I thought I'd add a little update on this. I was pulled over before I got the MOT done and it turns out if a car has never had an MOT, seemingly regardless of whether it is 10 months old or 10 years old, the police will be none the wiser to it. A traffic officer in a BMW ran my details through the system, and even though I knew my car was over 3 years old and needed an MOT, I heard the woman on the police radio come back and say "MOT is current". I thought it was wise not to enlighten the officer.

How strange, the space for advisories is well used for my cars... Clearly I am getting a more complete report and so better value for money than you.The only report I get is from the emissions test, and the MOT certificate has a space for advisories which is usually blank.
