Can I sorn my Mini and leave it in the private parking area outside my flat? Does this constitute off road? I'll not be driving it.

If it's a Housing Association or Council Flat, I wouldn't be so sure... I believe that the gardens of said flats are subject to parked vehicles being 'road legal' (ie taxed, MoT'd), but it is several years since I last worked in Council Housing...

O pants, my rover's tax expires today and i forgot to sorn it. Hopefully I can slope off and get to a PO before it shuts. If not instant fine?

If you do not intend to use the vehicle in the new year on a road repairable at public expense and have it parked up off road then go to DVLA site on the web and E Mail them a Sorn - job done but keep a copy (Insurance).

If you intend to keep using the vehicle consider leaving the old disc (Exp 12/o4)up and visit PO on Tuesday 4th Jan (5th in Scotland) to renew.

No PO or DVLA working until 4th. BiB on skeleton staff 1st and 3rd (Bank Holiday Overtime to be paid)and some will have bad heads and will not want to do mundane tasks.

The fine from SORN comes after DVLA do a computor sweep of their records at the beginning of each month and if there is no continuation in Excise Duty in the past month and SORN not declared then they send out a 80 pound fine
