Not that I would but it's annoying that my 2005 manufactured monaro was registered late 06 which means £500 tax. I was thinking that imported cars usually have to be registered with a registration appropriate to their date of manufacture, so just wondered if it's possible to do the same with something already on this soil if you could prove the year of manufacture?

I'm guessing way more hassle than its worth bit is it doable?

If it's an import that went through SVA the road tax would be £230 irrespective of when it was registered.

This question originally came up when 25 year old cars were given a free tax disc.

I proved it was possible to use the date of manufacture as the basis for the 25 year rule. A car registered in March, which had been built the year before had an extra year of free tax.

All you need is proof of build date from the manufacturer.

Its imported but by Vauxhall as an official import so not subject to IVA etc, it seems to be that 05 cars invariably ended up sitting around before they were registered in the UK. Could be worth firing an email off to DVLA I guess?

As an official car it's not classified as an import, hence the higher tax banding which will be done on date of registration only.
Date of manufacture will, unfortunately, be irrelevant.
