Oncoming car triggered camera whilst I was
Discussion
Edit: sorry messed up the title and it won't let me change it.
Hello all,
Was driving in a 30, doing absolutely no more than 25mph. An oncoming car on the opposite side of the road went speeding past at the same time I was going past the camera lines. This camera is very local to me and I see it flash oncoming cars all the time (there are no lines on the other side it just flashes). This just happened earlier today, but if I get a ticket through the door because of this oncoming idiot can I use the lines I passed over the two pictures to prove I wasn't speeding? Or will they realise this themselves and send nothing at all?
Thanks in advance for all helpful replies.

My understanding is the speeding ticket company has to use lines to determine whether or not a valid invoice can be raised but in the interests of making maximum money/minimum effort might well invoice and expect you to challenge it, so be ready for that one.
As regards "idiot" going the other way, you should be grateful that he's caused a wasted frame and saved one motorist from being fleeced.

“Speeding ticket companies” do not exist – It’s not and “invoice”. It’s a Fine – a legal requirement to pay.As regards "idiot" going the other way, you should be grateful that he's caused a wasted frame and saved one motorist from being fleeced.
Anyway, the number of times the subject of being flashed by a camera or car on the other side of the road has cropped up on PH it’s easy to search out.

... oncoming idiot ...
The camera will be to control speed on the approach to a hazard. The driver going the other way has passed the hazard, why is he an idiot? This will clarify who the 'idiot' is .

If it's a standard Gatso camera then they should check the picture, calculate your speed based on the distance traveled and discard the picture when they see you weren't speeding. If it's a Truvelo then it takes front-facing pictures (ie. the front of your car rather than the rear). These normally have three very small lines close together on the road rather than a long series of markings over a distance of several metres.Hello all,

I've had similar happen with a Gatso when an ambulance on blue lights passed me in the outside lane of a dual carriageway and triggered the camera. Never heard anything (correctly) as I was doing 25 past the camera in the 30mph limit.
If you're certain you didn't trigger it you'll be ok.
supermono, i used to work for the speeding ticket company you mentioned, we'd break into people's house when they were not home, adjust all their backward by 2 minutes, and clone the spare car keys. Then at night we'd used the cloned keys to get into the cars, adjust the speedos to under read slightly, and put the car's clock forward by a minute. It was the only way to keep revenue up when they made us paint the cameras yellow and put up signs, and stopped us using horse boxes.

It's not a 'fine'. Only a court of law can issue a 'fine'. It is a Conditional Offer of Fixed (COoFP) Penalty.Anyway, the number of times the subject of being flashed by a camera or car on the other side of the road has cropped up on PH it’s easy to search out.

If the (COoFP) is not accepted the case may well proceed to court where a fine may be imposed by a magistrate.

Don't worry, you wont hear anything. It will be blindingly obvious that you were well within the limit. Hello all,

I'm sure I read somewhere that the first flash (triggered by a vehicle exceeding the limit) is the accusation of speeding. The second flash (which will occur when the vehicle is in an area with measured markings on the road) is to prove the offense. In other words if you're not speeding but the camera is set off by someone either overtaking or coming the other the offence won't be proved by the second flash which records the distance travelled.
Not sure if right or wrong but it's happened a couple of times to me and nothing came of it.
