So, Camera vans operate at night now - I didn't know this!
Discussion
Driving along last night, one of those long straight wide 30 zones you get coming on into a small town/ village on an A road. Saw a flash around 100m away. Hit the brakes out of instinct, no idea what speed I was doing but I will have probably entered the 30 zone over 30. Fingers crossed it was flashing the car in front of me that was like 15 - 20 metres in front of it.
Anyhow, it was a humberside safety van. With a flash box about the size of a carry on suitcase just in front of it. I honestly didn't know camera vans operate at night. Is this common? I'm a lorry driver and have never seen one before, despite racking up mega mileage. (That said depending on what happens with this I might not be a lorry driver for much longer).

That odious twerp who used to be Cumbria Speed Camera Partnership's PR man was gloating many years ago that they had night equipment in their arsenal.
He's still here under another name, which escapes me at the moment. If you can track him down, he'll no doubt salivate over explaining all to you.

I got three points going past one of these vans in Essex about ten years ago, so they're certainly nothing new operating at night. I was the sacrificial lamb at the head of a number of cars - the flash went off and as I glanced in my mirror, I saw all the other cars jam on the brakes

Recipe for disaster. Remind me, do they call them SAFETY cameras?

He speaks very highly of you! He's still here under another name, which escapes me at the moment. If you can track him down, he'll no doubt salivate over explaining all to you.

Anyway, after unfortunate issues in an office belonging to Cumbria police - where wrongly-headed notepaper was used for letters to members of the public (giving an unfortunate wrong impression
) - he now represents RSS (part of ACPO) in prosecutions against speeding motorists (or did the last time we heard), where he works/worked as part of the "dream team".I suspect he changed his name on here from "pitmansboots", but the poster I suspected to be him more recently wasn't biting several months ago

the pistonheads knob squad.

Can't figure out where they came from or why they're here, unless they're BRAKE/Roadpeace/SUSTRANS/Pedestrians' Association volunteers...
Anyway, I got done in the dark by a mini gatso attached to a camera van back in 2009, so it's nothing new.

) of dazzling traffic, I'd suspect the SCP bosses would have to look at the HSE ramifications of the dangers of the job in using a vehicle without decent safety lighting,To prevent it getting hit by traffic, and how often do we hear of fire crews meeting hostile mobs.
