If I put my wife onto my deeds as joint owner, will there be any financial penalty when I leave this planet?

Also do I need a solicitor/conveyor to do it or its it did?

Inheritance tax doesn't apply to your spouse, according to HMRC:

http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/inheritancetax/intro/basics...

"Spouse or civil partner exemption. Your estate usually doesn't owe Inheritance Tax on anything you leave to a spouse or civil partner who has their permanent home in the UK - nor on gifts you make to them in your lifetime - even if the amount is over the threshold"

So reading that the answer to your question is no tax issue, but probably also no need to do this as your house passes to your wife anyway right?
