I am getting rather hacked off seeing blue lights at night only to find it is an HGV lit up like a Christmas tree. When you are on a busy carriageway your are keeping track of what's going on around you. Seeing a blue light in mirror, or coming towards you the first thought is emergency vehicle not Scania. Legal?

I feel your pain op.

I have the additional issue of those poxy led drl's, the prisms in my glasses seperate the blue light from these, so I see white with blue alongside it.

as 'supplementary position lights '

a blue lamp cannot replace a statutory bulb ( so mthe cheap blue sidelight bulbs to try and give a xenon look to ordinary halogen headlights are illegal

equallt illegal is a blue light that resemembles a 'special warning light ' - under the same rules that restrict blue beacons ( although comparitively few emergency vehicles are actually fitted with traditional bulb and moving mirror beacons any more vs Strobe or LED ) so if it was really wanted a test case could be made of that

Where is all that written? Last time it came up here, I couldn't track down any rules.

If you get a few blue lights on an HGV confused with strobing blue lights on an emergency vehicle then i suggest having your eye sight checked.

elements designed to flash automatically in a light other than an indicator - illegal under UK law ( the strobe effect 'emergency braking' brake lights are technically illegal although there's some shenanigans with EU wide type approval)...

i think most plod if pulling him would go for a lamp resembling a special warnign light for that ...
