RAC: Time for common sense on cameras

Just when we're criticising the RAC for folding under government pressure, we find Edmund King gingerly pushing the drivers' PoV. This was reported in the Nottingham Evening Post -- clearly right in the lion's den in terms of anti-car attitudes.

RAC Foundation said:

The call, from the RAC Foundation, comes on the back of ideas proposed by motorists across the country. Proposals for changes on the road include: - Clearly signed speed limits actually on cameras - A review of speed limits when suggested by motorists - The promotion of defensive driving and speed awareness courses - The use of speed awareness courses instead of penalty points to educate convicted drivers - Speed cameras preceded by interactive signs advising people to slow - The moving of speed limit signs away from junctions where drivers tend to concentrate on the traffic - 20mph limits around schools in peak periods. Reflecting on the ideas Edmund King, executive director of the RAC Foundation, said: "The system should be much more flexible with a review of limits, clear signing of speed limits on the camera and road surface, and more emphasis on speed awareness courses. "These are views that the RAC Foundation tends to support."

All sounds like remarkable common sense and very much the way we should be going.

Unlike other Motoring so called experts, Edmund King is a breath of commonsense , in a gridlock of mire.
very unusual for someone in his position , to standup on a regular basis and tell it like it is,while surrounded by the other anti-motoring slimes.
