Once you have the map on screen you can then select Transportation from maps, and then select Speed cameras and collisions. You then see where all accidents from 1999 - Aug 2004 have been. You can also view the injuries for each accident by clicking on the little info button and then clicking on an accident spot.
Bad news is that you cannot see the accident information for Blackpool and Blackburn as they are not part of Lancashire County Council anymore.

As always, cameras have their place and do a good job when situated properly.
However, only real traffic officers can detect drink drivers, no insurance, no licence, disqualified drivers, poor driver behaviour/standards etc etc...and that's where the answer lies..
I just picked a camera at random from the list on the safecam site: A370 uphill road north (ID 95).
This site was "inherited", as the camera was installed in 1994.
The accident figures for the last 6 years:
98: 1
99: 3
00: 6
01: 1
02: 4
03: 5
What does this prove then?
You could invent a trend for 98-01 ("massive 83% reduction in accidents in 01") and another one for 01-03 ("massive 400% increase in accidents in 03").
However, I would suggest that there is no pattern whatsoever, but purely random events taking place. There is no trend. And this from a camera that's been there for over 10 years and therefore has had plenty of time to influence driver behaviour rather than just penalise the unwary.
Cameras saving lives? The site states "casualties reduced by 16% at camera sites" and yet admits defeat by then stating "fewer new camera sites to be introduced in 2005". So they work really well, save lives, but we're not going to save as many more in 2005 as we did in 2004.

you've hit the nail on the head regarding Speed CAm stats - annual accident figures per site are so low as to be statistically meaningless -
speak : "sample size" is way too low to mean anything - its just random year-on-year variation. Only meaningful (mathematically speaking) set of number would be a national add-up - and we all know that TOTAL accidents and deaths are NOT declining.
And this show just a blip for just one year...

Totally agree with Peter - these figures seem to show that 'in these instances the placings of speed camers have bugger all quantifiable effect on accidents and accident rates'
though....we dont seem to have figures from BEFORE any camer was in place? Or did i just not se it?

Looks interesting, are you able to explain what it means for the stupid?
I obtained the full accident data for the UK for 1991-2002 and analysed camera stats in a certain city. Comparing the the claims made against the cameras got me some interesting conclusions. I am making an FOI request to fill in the gaps (eg. the loci of the camera boundaries) an double check before I say too much.

Each section (sand colour for Gary) shows the number of KSI vertically versus the years horizontally for a Gatso site. These are stacked to show a total at the top which shows the total variation over the years

So in 2003 we returned to the same level of KSIs that we had in 1999? Well that's reassuring....
What happened in 2002? A change of that magnitude must have had a cause -- or at least it would have done if it was the same size downwards because the Partnership would have trumpeted their amazing success.
