My brother and his girlfriend were meant to go to a music event Saturday night. I had bought them the tickets.

They queued up.
Went past the first security guard who scanned the ticket.
Came to the second security guard who asked them where they are from. They replied Liverpool. The event was in Manchester and the security guard refused them from entering, took their ticket and pushed them out of the premises. This happened to a couple of others my brother knows.

Looking across social media yesterday, ALOT of people had been refused entrance too, them being from Liverpool, males and females.

I have emailed the event organiser who has said no refund will be made however I can direct emails to the security provider.

  • Promoters and event managers have the right to refuse admission to any event.' The mentioned parties may take security, environmental and health and safety factors into consideration. Please note that Ticket Arena will offer no refund to customers who are refused entry or ejected from an event'*
Unsure how to proceed next other than emailing the security company.

Must admit its a good scheme sell more tickets to an event than can attend then decide not to admit some on the basis of where they live!

I'd be on the phone to Trading Standards I think.

I'm sure you won't any joy out of the security firm. Unless they had good reason, at which we can only guess, to deny entry then you should demand a refund from whoever you bought the tickets. If it's a worthwhile sum then I believe there's something called Moneyclaim online.

Wild guess... you bought the tickets and so payment and address was yours for the ticket sale. You gifted them.

The gig suspected ticket resale (breach of terms?) and so denied entry?

Sum was only £70.
My father is telling me to just leave it as it will lead to nowhere but I just can't believe they can get away with it if I don't press the matter.

The security guard never questioned if the ticket had been resold, just asked where he was from. I couldn't believe it when my brother told me, then I went on to Twitter and seen that the incident had happened with others too.

If a mod could change the title to 'Refused entry to an event' I would appreciate it.

Suspect that the bank will refund your £70 and raise a dispute with the ticket seller, who will state that the tickets were sent to you correctly - at which point your bank will take back the £70

Visa debit chargeback. Ignore the junk about them taking the money back. I have direct experience of this with a bank to the tune of approx £10k. If the bank play up just say you want a deadlock letter. Worked for me and I got compensation as well.

this sounds like a bizarre reason to refuse entry - perhaps you could create a facebook group and ask others to join to show the organiser that this was not a one-off as many were refused entry.

Perhaps they were not wearing a shell suit, as is stereotyped attire for residents of Liverpool?

The security guards will have given the tickets to friends.

I would exhaust the chain of command at the event co. first of all.

This stuff always sets my teeth on edge. I understand that these places have to have the power to refuse entry or remove people however there is very little to stop that power being abused. Bouncers, licence holders and events organisers aren't exactly famous for being squeaky clean either.

smile can't name businesses on here I don't think.
If the security company do email back saying that I am not getting a refund then I don't know what to do.
Don't really want to take it to the local newspaper incase the security company are pretty shady and I create hassle for myself.

Look on their Facebook page! Loads of people in the same boat, think it's just par for the course, you won't get a refund , maybe small claims would work but my guess is they would claim you where intoxicated and presented a safety risk. Bad reviews won't help, for every one like you that won't go back there is another 100 serotonin depleted rave monkeys to take your spot. Back in the day me and the boys rented a van and drove all the way from Stevenage the Sheffield to go to gate crasher, got told on the door one of our group didn't have 'the right look' and therefore no entry, no refund. You can't argue with a shaved ape, it's just the way it is!

I'd like to here from a lawyer on this... Simply but in whatever line of business, would a contract be allowed where you can take money from people and then include in the terms and conditions that we reserve the right to give you nothing for your money if we so decide for whatever reason.

Now when I ran a company - if I'd included in my terms and conditions that I could keep deposits for whatever so reason I chose I'd have been laughed out of a court room, trading standards would have ripped me up. So why do people think that it's acceptable in this environment.

I'd personally be claiming back via a chargeback if possible, and if not going through the small claims court. I'm quite confident they would fold before court - I'd also be screaming blue bloody murder around the press.
