Gatso - Facing Forwards

Has anyone been ticketed having been flashed by a forward facing Gatso? Went through a Gatso today on the opposite side of the road to it and it went off....so I was driving towards it.....and I couldnt see anything speeding going away from it?...AND i was doing what I thought was the 40 or there or there abouts?

Happened quite a few times to me, nothing to worry about.
On this note, I spotted an odd one over xmas that ive never seen before.
Normal rear camera yellow painted Gatso on left of road & a small distance in front of it- maybe 50 ft or so, on the same side of road a forward facing jobbie that looks like a smaller version of a Gatso, but in all grey paint.
Quite odd & something I've never noticed before why the 2 cameras?
Its in Ongar, Essex if anyone knows that area.

New digital jobbie to replace the traditional one.
No (visible, anyway) flash, so forward facing is ok.
Possibly not yellow yet as its not been comissioned.
Several popping up around these parts, usually on taller poles.

Nope, never had a NIP from a "forward" facing GATSO thats "flashed" - even if there were markers on the road.
Sure it wasn't a Truvelo camera not a Gatso? These are forward facing camera's that are often rotated to look either way on the road. Triggered by 3 black lines across the road, there are no Gatso style road markings.

That could simply mean that the cam ran out of film and you got lucky.
This is from our very own PH archives, regarding a forward facing truvelo in my area (which emits a visible pinkish flash when triggered):

However, I've never heard of any one camera being able to monitor both directions of traffic, or traffic on the opposite side of the road. Jimbers, were there any marking or sensor strips on your side of the road where the camera is pointed?

Most of the cameras in operation in Sydney check both directions and AFAIK the cameras in the Harbour tunnel face the front of the car - no probs with privacy information here!
As an aside, they also don't paint the cameras yellow or have markings on the road - just a grey box, though usually there is a signpost warning of its vicinity.

thing is I do have a snooper 6 thingy Neo dooberry.....BUT because I knew the road....knew the GATSO was on the other side etc etc didn't really let up. It had been my understanding that GATSO's don't work forward facing, and in the past when they've gone off in similar circumstances I've not had anything come of it....BUT as I'm approaching critical mass on points (the result of 4 years of +36k per years and one offence per year all 30+, 40+ and 50+ offence, not one of which was over 40, 50 or 60 respectively) one gets a little nervous.....but I'm dying to test my Chauffer plan policy! really I am

The civilian contrator who installed the camera will have the red face...they usually do..
Like when we had the car park at my police station re-surfaced and marked out.
A contractor approached me looking at the allocated car park spaces and said
"I've been working these out officer, but stuck on a couple. D I is Detective Inspector,yes? D C I Detective Chief Inspector, yes? D S is Detective Sergeant, yes? S G T S is short for 'Sergeants', yes?
I'm just stuck on that one..What is D O G S?"
I just pointed at the fur ball barking and snapping in the back of the van.

Well that's not entirely unreasonable, since dogs can't drive (legally at least) he would have no reason to believe they required their own parking spaces.

The two camera set-up is used to avoid the "I don't know who was driving" claims. AFAIK they are not digital and still rely on film.
On the grey camera there is still a visible flash but it is behind a magenta filter (like a Truvelo). It won't be painted yellow as this grey camera is only used to photograph the driver and not the actual offence, and apparently the picture is very clear. It is the yellow Gatso before it that records the offence, hence the "high visibility" paintwork.
One of these set-ups appeared in Harlow last year by the Latton Bush Centre.

nope GATSO here, my experience tells me they monitor the lane that they are on the side of - so traffic traveling away from it is monitored.
However there is one clever GATSO on a bit of dual carriageway up be me that is in the centre of the dual carrideway so it swivels itself around depending on time of day, so it can monitor traffic going down or up the hill.

Your first paragraph is a bit confusing; do you mean '......travelling away from it is not monitored'?
