RX8 hybrid diesel-electric... Registration etc?

Hi guys, I'm planning on embarking on a series hybrid diesel/electric conversion and would like to use an RX8 as my donor vehicle...using the majority of it minus engine.

My concern is that I don't want to be paying the silly high road tax and insurance for an RX8, when my emissions should fit me in a free or £20 tax band.

Once I've done the conversion what do I do? Will it keep the same plates, still be an RX8 on paper and just have the mod looked at, or can I have it fully re-registered and on a totally new tax band and insurance group?

Can't help with the insurance group. I think you'd probably be best speaking to a specialist / modified insurer first.

Insurance inspection might be the easiest route?

Unless you can put it through the full official CO2 tests, and get a g/km figure that's accurate, they'll almost certainly default to the pre-01 non-CO2 figures. So, unless you're using a <1550cc diesel, then it's going to be £230/yr.
