Hello,

Not sure if this is the correct forum to post such a question but it concerns a road incident.

I was travelling home late this evening, and it had been snowing. Whilst at a set of traffic lights an ambulance approached from behind with blue lights. I went to move over to let it through and due to the snow covering on thre roadside this masked a kerb. By moving over for the ambulance I've heavy kerbed one of my wheels.

I drive a MINI John Cooper Works GP2 and the cost per standard wheel is £648 (plus tyre fitting).

Is there somewhere (online or otherwise) where I can lodge a complaint with the correct ambulance service? Are they liable for these damages?

Wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience?

Thanks.

The way I see it-no-similar situation in you can be prosecuted for going through a red light to allow an emergency vehicle through.

Just because you have an emergency vehicle behind you doesn't relieve you of the responsibility to adhere to road traffic laws and (relevant in this instance) maintain control of your vehicle. Nor does it give you the right to blame any damage inflicted upon your vehicle on the driver of the emergency vehicle-he didn't drive your car into the kerb, you did.

Sorry to sound harsh, but I don't think you'd get anywhere with that claim.

Just get it repaired...as said you drove into the kerb so I doubt you'll get anywhere with a claim.

Since when did kerning a wheel warrant a whole new brand spanking overpriced rim from MINI.

Get it refurbed for about £60. Seems you'd be claiming for a new wheel because someone else would be paying for it.

I dinged a trolley in the dark leaving a mm scratch on the edge of my door.

Might put a claim in for a whole new Jag door at £600 against Tesco for not ensuring customers put them back in the bay.

Just going to quote this in case it goes missing. Gold is valuable.

You drove into a kerb and that's somehow the ambulance's fault?

No they're not liable. Either get it fixed yourself or make a claim on your insurance. Probably cheaper just to fix it yourself but it depends on the size of your excess and just how much impact the hit on your NCBS will have on your premiums for the next few years.

I can't think of how you would sue the Ambulance service but i have a better idea

YOU drove YOUR car into a kerb damaging YOUR car

So send me a PM and I will send you the contact details of my lawyer

Then you can send a damage claim to me

Why me?

As i am about as liable as the ambulance

Nobody has shown any concern for the kerbstone. Was it hurt in any way when the nasty man drove his boy racer mini into it?

I suspect the appropriate local authority has good grounds to claim for any damage to
The kerbstone (unlikely as they don't damage as easily as wheels)

Yes, I and rather a lot of others kerbed our cars to let an ambulance through in heavy traffic.

What I did, and I think it might be useful for you to do the same, is thought that if it were me or anyone I loved in the back of that ambulance, I'd be pleased people got out of my way to try and help save them. I then went on my way and knew I'd do the same again if it happened.

This has to be a troll surely??

What kind of nutcase really thinks the ambulance would be at fault here!

Almost as bad as the old eurotunnel bump thread

How about suing the patient inside the ambulance? If they had not needed urgent medical attention none of this would have happened. I suggest you visit all the local hospitals to find the real culprit. Warning: The car park fees at the hospitals may cost more than a new wheel unless you can claim for that as well!
