I nipped to the local supermarket this morning and parked on the road just outside the grounds of it. It was double yellow lines. I knew this.

Came out to see parking ticket guy taking a pic of the rear plate and then crossing the road to take a snap from the side.

Oh well, fair enough - Caught and would have to pay it; no problem. I completely blanked the guy, got in and drove off.

Now, as I drove off my wipers were on intermittent wipe and just as I drove past him the wipers wiped and the ticket flew off into the air.

Its a fairly busy road and I had a lorry behind me so I drove up to the roundabout came back around and ticket and warden were not there. So, what shall I do? Do I ring up the council and explain?

What happens if I do nothing and wait - will I get an increased fine?

Any help appreciated.

Oh, and yes its all my fault and this would have been avoided if I had not parked on the double yellow lines etc etc

What help do you want, exactly?

Someone to hold your hand as you phone the council very apologetically on Monday morning and ask then to send a copy of the ticket through to you?

Life is so complicated sometimes, isn't it?

Warden will have "served' the ticket, so it's on you to sort it out. Good luck talking to the council, they're generally rubbish at dealing with anything outside of the confines of their SOP, but it's really the only way. Make sure all correspondence is recorded (incl. recorded mail).

It's just an odd story. Local supermarket implies it's large enough to have a car park - why didn't you park there?

Why wouldn't you remove the ticket from the windscreen before driving off? Why would you drive off with anything on the windscreen?

It reads like one of those stories where OP is fishing for a bite.

Ah right I see.

I was a bit embarrassed if I'm honest and just wanted to feck off out of it. Mistake for sure

Fair enough.

As others have said, you need to get in contact with the council if you are intending to pay up ASAP - there's usually a 14 day 50% discount period. You might not even need a copy of it, the PCN number may be enough to simply pay it online.

Perhaps when you ring the council they will add dropping litter to the list.

That wouldn't happen. Even if it was a possibility, it's easily avoided by simply saying 'I misplaced the PCN' instead of 'I drove off with the PCN attached to my windscreen, but my wipers were on intermittent which removed the PCN from the windscreen.'

I had this happen to me once, rang the council, explained the issue and paid up as I was (irritatingly) bang to rights. Honestly not that difficult chap. Top tip, never park a scooter on pavement in Chiswick.
