Crap Speed Limits

A50 in Stoke - Meir Tunnel - modern (1998 vintage) 4 lane dual carriageway through underpass has 40mph limit on it! As a result most drivers exceed this limit 45-50 being the norm! 60 or even 70 feels perfectly comfortable as there is good visability throughout.

The only problem I can see is the westbound sliproad joining the carriageway a bit abruptly though I'm sure they could have made a better job of this in the first place.

Come to think about it 60 or maybe 70mph seems an appropriate speed for most of the urban section through Stoke (has a 50 limit on the other bits).

Is this the worst speed limit in the country? I'm sure there's worse!! Any takers?

Well, I can think of some 6 lane (3 each way) ex-Motorway through London which was a national (obviously), and is now a 40 limit which of course, absolutely everyone ignores! I've been driving thid road for years and never seen of heard of an accident of course! GGRRRrrr!!!

Don't suppose you are talking about the A13 are you? I use this regularly at weekends and since the roadworks have finished it's been a belting road. Unless it's changed recently there aren't that many speed cameras so it's almost as good as a motorway on some stretches.

There are plenty going out of London on it but why they have to have a 40mph limit god only knows. Many an occasion I have had idiots slowing from 50 or 60 down to about 30 at the cameras at Beckton. The one at the bottom of the flyover at the ski slope is a pain as well.

I know exactly where you mean - bl00dy nuisance those scameras are - I think they are active too as I have seen some of them flash when the local scrotes bomb through.

I was in fact talking about the A102(M) which has now been reclassified as the A12 - but of course, the Motorway qualities of 3 lanes, armco, hard shoulder, central reservation etc. are still there, only what was a 70 is now a 40

Most of the London Motorways and Dual Carridgeways have also been dropped from a sensible limit to a crawl - aparently, mostly by our friend Ken who decided a sweeping "no speed limit in London is allowed to be more than 50mph" and I hear this is now being ratcheted down again to 40 now...

The A13 40mph speed limit is a joke.Almost as bad is the 40mph limit on the Limehouse Link with 30mph in the tunnell.

How about the M621 going through Leeds, it's 3 lanes for most of the way so the obvious speed limit on a 3-lane M-way is of course....
