Just wondering if anybody is clued up on legal protection.

I had a non-fault accident last year and my insurance told me I had legal cover, on the same phone call I was directed to them and set up a case with them.

I was told because of the legal cover whatever the outcome I wouldn't pay anything out of pocket, but if my passenger was to go forward he would have to.

The solicitors told me that it would be a fee of up to 25% of the figure at the end, also a premium to pay for my cover against any losses if the case fails.

I have just been browsing insurance for renewal and saw this:

Motoring Legal Protection £2.50 per month
If you’re involved in a road traffic accident which is caused wholly or partly by another party, there are some things that your car insurance doesn’t cover. Add Motoring Legal Protection and;

We will cover your legal costs up to £100,000, to help recover uninsured losses such as loss of earnings and personal injury compensation
You keep 100% of any monies you are paid - without Motoring Legal Protection you may have to pay the solicitor representing you up to 25% of any monies you are paid
Motoring Legal Protection also provides you with up to £10,000 to defend you if charged with a motoring offence arising from an incident while using your car

Important: Your case will only be progressed if we assess that the chance of success is more likely than not. For recovery of uninsured losses, there must be a party to recover the losses from.

This states you keep all monies you are paid, so what did I actually have on my policy?

I'm guessing Legal cover and Legal protection are 2 different things?

Just trying to clarify as I'm now a bit confused!!
