Plate Transfer and Tax
Discussion
Background: Bought a car in December, and moved house. Car was showing as taxed until June up to about a week ago.
Just received the new V5.
I have a retention certificate for my private plate, my brother is the assignee but has signed me off as the nominee.
I now need to tax, change address on the V5 and assign the plate.
Wife went to the post office and they told her that if I tax the car on the current plate, then send the V5 with the retention cert off to change the plate, I will have to re-tax the car.
This is a bit of a problem as its 500+ to tax my car....
Is the PO wrong? Or what is the best way to get this done without paying to tax the car twice!!

Well that's pretty stupid.
Tried calling the DVLA, they are actually pretty helpful on the phone and will know the correct information. Unlike the Post Office.
Forgot to mention, I'm currently sitting in Saudi Arabia and cannot dial in to DVLA since they changed their contact numbers to 0300 xxxxxxTried calling the DVLA, they are actually pretty helpful on the phone and will know the correct information. Unlike the Post Office.
Got someone in the UK to call them and they confirmed - tax transfers with the change in number plate.
