Any Expriences of speeding in the States?

Has anyone had any experiences of being stopped for speeding while in the US on holiday?

If so can you give my mate some advice.

My best friend got busted outside San Diego for 87 (in a 55 or so IIRC), the cop fined him and told him to inform the DVLA that he had been stopped as there was no official way the San Diego PD could tell them.

Needless to say when he got back to the UK he was beating a path to Swansea to needlessly incriminate himself
