I hear that there is now a suggestion to discourage drunk driving by banning pub car parks.

Has any research been done as to where most drink drivers have got their alcohol? It would be interesting to see a breakdown as to how many in pubs, how many at events such as parties or weddings and how many at home.

I suspect it might be different for the 'extra half pint miscalculators' as opposed to those who habitually drive totally sloshed.

I've not done any research on it, but I can't see this measure having any impact at all, not least because you could always park round the corner and indeed, many persistent drink drivers do, so that the pub staff don't ring the police.

I'm told it was a remark made in an interview by someone involved in 'Advanced' motoring. Not a proposal that will get anywhere, but interesting as an example of the 'one more ban and utopia will be ours' mentality.

Riiiiiight.

So we're going by chinese whispers based on a memory of a potentially out-of-context remark by somebody who the media have played hunt-the-soundbite to find.

I'll stop panicking, if it's OK with you.

Thank you corporal Jones, but I've no idea why you were panicking, nobody else was. I just thought it would be interesting to know if there was a pattern to where drink drivers got themselves sloshed, it would be interesting even if nobody had suggested banning anything.

So where is the designated driver for a group of drinkers going to park?

Sounds nonsense to me.

I think that only the last sentence of those two was needed!

Mind you, the number of car parks pubs are selling off for building on....

What do they do with the car park then? Does it turn into a void?

Nope, just gets easier to convince the planners to let you pop a pair or two of semi's on it...

What if the pub isn't in the SE where they'll build on top of you if you stand still long enough? No chance of houses going up in pub car parks near me.

I'd like to know where this 'suggestion' originated because other than this thread, the internet appears to know nothing about it.

Although it may be that the people whose house around the corner they park outside ring the police anyway smile

Haven't seen that van here for a long time now...
