Hi folks,

A bit of a weird one to me but perhaps very straightforward to those in the know.

A house in a rather affluent area of Glasgow has recently displayed a pirate flag outside as well as some sort of legal notice. Does anyone know if this notice is legally binding and why it might be on display? I am guessing that perhaps the occupants of the house owe money to someone or something but I'm not sure. I assume the pirate flag simply highlights they are a bit crazy...or real pirates!

I have just a lightbulb moment and realised that the house in question probably belongs to a You Tube user called Scottish Sovereign!

Is the notice a load of rubbish like most of his videos?

Freeman on the Land wibble. File under: bks.

As someone put it on another FOTL thread reticently, these dweebs think that there is a cheat code for life. They think that they can opt out of government and the law by uttering what they regard as some magic words. The only teeny tiny snag with this plan is that it doesn't work.

Probably something rather along the lines of this bunch...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freemen_on_the_land

I'll assume that, while they apparently wish to remove themselves from all involvement with government agencies that can demand payment, or impose legal sanctions etc, they still want their electricity to be supplied, their mains water to run and their bins to be regularly emptied at the same time!

ETA - Beaten to it! biggrin

But isn't there actually some law under which you can withdraw access rights?

I'm sure I've watched a 'freeman' vs Police video on Youtube (and there are a lot) in which one of them gets a great comeback from the Copper in question.
Something along the lines of;
FOTL- "Blah blah, road traffic act is an act, not a law, doesn't apply, blah."
PC- "It does sir"
FoTL- "Blah wibble, PACE, also an act, what law are you using, blah, am I detained, blah"
PC- "If I can see your licence sir?"
FOTL- "Wibble, you breathed near me, that's an assault, blah, you swore an oath, blah"

This goes on for some time and at some point the topic goes on to information the Police have about the FOTL in question at which point he tells the officer he is going to apply for this information to see if it is true or not. You may see where this is going.

PC-"And how will you get this info Sir?"
FOTL- "Blah, Freedom of information act blah blah"

PC-"Ah, so you'll stand by an act when it suits you?"

May not be an accurate transcript but watching the vid I enjoyed it all the same.

You could withdraw the implied licence that anyone has to walk up your garden path and knock on your door, but you cannot prevent someone with lawful authority coming onto your property. For example, a police officer executing a warrant or a bailiff enforcing a judgment could walk up your path and knock on your door.

Not even if you put a pirate flag up as well?

exactly

Freewibblers think they have found the 'cheat code' for life ... i just wish they'd move to a failed state somewhere where they can exercise their free and sovereign bks without the impedements of living in a civilisaed society, except of course they are too scared to actually do that ...

The Magna Carta was drafted to bring peace. I don't see much peace from the examples of FMOL that I have seen.

Some free wibblists bang on about Magna Carta, failing to notice (1) that it wasn't all cuddles and fun but in large part a deal between a bunch of heavily armed dudes and a King who had pissed them off which was mainly concerned with letting the heavily armed dudes carry on doing their thing; (2) that it later became a Statute (the thing which freewibblers hate, and (3) that in any event almost all of it has been repealed.
