Private reg transfer & selling a car ?
Discussion
Hi, my Son has recently bought another car as a replacement to his existing one. He has left a deposit on the new one on 21/2 & the dealer sent off paperwork that day to transfer my Sons private plate onto new car. In the meantime he has sold his other car but told the buyer he couldn't collect the car until the plate transfer has completed. Now he is picking up his new one tomorrow albeit on the original plate but the buyer of his old car is wanting to collect it asap. The buyer has offered to sign a receipt that says the registration number is not part of the sale but I'm a bit worried about letting it go until the plate transfer is complete, am I right to be concerned ?

Check to see what vehicle it is showing the plate is registered to.
Normally the correct make/model will show up immediately as soon as the DVLA have done it (although the V5 takes a few more days to arrive), on here: http://ownvehicle.askmid.com/ and here: https://www.vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/
Don't let it go until completed

Well I bought a car that was in the process of having the plate transferred off. The owner had sent the paperwork off with the V5 and was waiting to get the new V5 back.
I happily bought the car and we did the (new) V5 transfer when it came through.
I am not sure if there was actually a way for me to sabotage the process so I got to keep the reg (not that I wanted to).
