....to fine those who earn more a lot more for their crimes.

Having a little crunch and running off - the fine gets increased by a mere £10,000 if one is "richer then yeeeoooou!" (Liebchen - cannot do 'Arry Enfield character ....)

They have not said how much more they intend to fine rich motorists should they get pinged .... but but not doubt we are looking at similar hike-up percentages.

In which piece of legislation does it state that you have to declare your income to anyone other than the Inland Revenue?

At the moment you have to give the courts a breakdown of your income if you are trying to get them to give you a smaller fine. I assume they will just use the same system, if you don't spill the beans then they will assume you can afford the larger fine.

Just like the Hunting ban New Labour has come up with another piece of not very well disguised class warfare! We are supposed to be equal before the law, therefore our level of liability should be the same, regardless of income.

It's just another form of taxation effectively. Why because I have made a decent life for myself, got an education put in the work and got a decent job have to pay more! Is there a "being a decent person penalty?" Why should for example a single mother on the dole pay less than me? Perhaps if she'd found a lasting relationship, not got pregnant at 14 and found herself a decent job then she'd be ok

One of the less obvious security benefits for outsourcing call centres to far flung places I assume. Or it would be if the operators relatives had not spread around the world in recent years ...

Brown has to get a feel for how much more we have available so that he can give it to the Banks to service Tanzania's debt.

Must be his age I suppose - hormonal changes and all that. Didn't expect him of all people to do a Diana. Still, perhaps he feels it can't do his image any harm.

Now Tony has forced me to donate to the UN and various other dodgy agencies so that more disaster relief money can be directed into the hands of people who will misuse it I anticipate ever more money raising scams as the 2 B's enjoin in their own personal battle for supremacy on the so called moral high ground using our formerly ready cash.

Should be another 2p on the price of fuel soon I reckon. Just for starters. And a raid on pension funds I would guess since for most the effect is far into the future and would have little immediate impact on short term voting inclinations.

If you are a law abiding citizen with a proper then you will get a big fine. If you are a persistent criminal you are likely to have a very low legal income and therefore get a nice small fine.

Not much of a deterent. Just another way of taking more money from those who actually earn it.

I suppose the truth is that the underclass and the unemployed are more likely to be Labour voters so they must not be upset.

A relative suggests that most criminals are Labour voters so they must be given the protection of the law when breaking into our property.
