Went to view an XJS advertised on ebay

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/151589295787?_trksid=p20...

During the conversation with the seller he said he also had a celebration model , that he had for sale at 5k if i was interested .

thought it was worth the drive down to check out the cars

I checked both cars on mycarcheck.com before the drive
Red Jag K917HPP had last keeper change 11/04/2010 , not reported stolen , no finance also said No VIN has been supplied.

Black Jag N540OYO last change of keeper 23/07/2004 , had plate change , not reported stolen No VIN has been supplied.

The cars were not at the address in the photos , nor were they at the registered keepers address on the V5's

The cars were on a terraced housing estate. & the Seller was acting very odd he was cleaning the cars , when I pulled up , then he shot inside the house and closed the door . I knocked on the door and told him we had spoke on the phone ,
He then came out and said which car do you want to buy . I asked to see the V5 , which he was reluctant to show me , In any case the Red XJS was in poor condition not as shown in the photos !!!, paint peeling , rust under the arches and when i checked the oil filler cap ...........nice mayo !!

Ok thats not for me , lets have a look at the black Celebration model , It was in very nice condition , nice combo of black interior , However when i asked to see the paper work , our seller got very agitated , listen you decide , you buy , then we do the paperwork ............err no mate thats not how it works , eventually he got out the V5 ,
How long have you had her , 4 months , err so where has the car been for 10 years since last keeper change in 2004 ???......Dont know mate i bought her off a chap who thought i might like her !
Now the VIN number was displayed on the passenger windscreen , it matched the V5 but was loose !!! but under the bonnet , there was a VIN sticker over where the original chassis plate would have been , When i pointed this out our seller , He became very unhappy , its because its a celebration model !!

err no Jaguar wouldn't cover over the original plate ,with a VIN sticker
time to walk away , so that was that , but the car has had a plate change in its life the VIN plate was more dodgy than a £25 note.

trouble is some poor sod has probably had this car nicked ??

Might be worth phoning 101, explain the situation, and leave it up to them to decide what to do. They'll have a lot more tricks to find out if it's stolen, and you might help someone get their car back.

Yup, if genuinely believe it to be iffy then it's worth reporting as you can remain anonymous. Let us know what you decided to do.

If you dont want the car just walk away. Why bother going to the trouble of reporting it and all the associated hassle that goes with it? In any case both those cars are pretty undesirable pieces of crap and extremely unlikely to be nicked, even if they were hes done the owner a favour..

It's more likely that the ones he's on about are probably ideal to be stolen / shipped over in a container to use as cheap hire cars in Spain instead hehegetmecoat

Really ! So if it was a mk1 escort there be a 20 page thread by now hey ? I find the xjs a desirable car but that's not really the point is it ? The point being if you can trap the scum that steal our pride and joy's then it's a right result, call it in op there won't be any hassle other than a few mins on the blower ! And if it turns out there legit so be it

That's actually a good idea.

At least he'd be banned forever if he tried that.

Reminds me of a former colleague who was ex-army. Forever regaling us with tales of derring do in Northern Ireland - which was current at the time - & what he'd done with the SAS & was a total bore, esp after a few drinks.
Made the mistake of recounting these tales during the PAA annual shooting meeting in the bar of one of the clubs at Bisley in the presence of a couple of chaps we knew - he didn't - who were the real deal. A few pointed questions followed about the what, when, where and who and he was left very red faced & admitting he'd actually just been attached as a gofer.
Noticable that the genuine article weren't inclined to enlighten all & sundry about their job & I can't imagine any of them doing so on an internet forum.

A quick search of the Member List appears to suggest he's already done it before, as this appears to be the original dormant (possibly locked?), account:
