Just after some up to date info really...

My colleague has been flashed recently on M62 as have I. Both of us doing very little over a speedo indicated 80 both at between 5am and 5.30am so very little traffic. I'm Ok I guess as I only have 3 points, he's on 9 though so is a bit more nervous.

Some people are saying that they are flashing when the overhead signs are off but not issuing tickets.

Does anyone know whether there's any truth in that...

Thanks...

1. When the cameras first went in I had it on good authority that they were not enforcing the 70 limit.

2. I've heard anecdotally that this is no longer the case but don't know for sure.

3. I'm not sure your colleague is intelligent enough to hold a driving license. 9 points and doing 80+ on m62? Honestly a Darwin award beckons.....

I've driven through there very recently when there were no overhead variable reduced speed limits in force at an indicated 90 and had no bother at all. The cameras didn't flash either.

Is it still half term?

Struggling to see what's so funny, either you don't believe the speedo was indicating around 80 which is was or you don't believe there wasn't much traffic around at 5 to 5.30 am which if you've been around Hartshead Moor at that time in the morning you'll know traffic can be light.

Thanks to everyone else for the useful contributions though...

Sometimes they are on...sometimes they are off...are you willing to take the risk?

Clearly the answer is "yes" as I have done already.

I'm struggling to work out why you mentioned it was early in the morning with little traffic? What that that got to do with choosing to exceed the speed limit?

Re confusion around the influence on speed selection of traffic density: what a toss-pot thing to say. Does anyone really think that 70mph is a sensible upper speed limit for modern cars? You have to remove your brain not to feel frustrated at that speed on an empty motorway / or not mind wasting your life sitting in a car creeping along in a straight line for no justifiable reason whatsoever. The law is often an ass and its perfectly acceptable to ignore rules that don't make any sense....

Go for it! I like your thinking.

Will it still be "perfectly acceptable" when you lose your licence after the totting-up ban?

Modern man, in general, has developed to understand that some laws follow common sense and preservation of health and order and also to realise that some of mankind need protecting from themselves.

Many would agree that modern man needs protecting from the likes of you
