Lanes closed with the "Red Cross", any stats on convictions
Discussion
There have been a few threads across PH about the lovely lane closed by the red cross issue. I haven't really been impacted by this before and just moved over as advised and dealt with the traffic jam that almost certainly ensued.
However, on Saturday afternoon I was on the M25 clockwise near to Enfield when the outside lane was closed with the red cross sign and the information boards read "lane closed due to incident". At this point everyone started to move one lane left and at the next gantry the outside lane was empty. The traffic was very slow at this point and so a few people decided to use the outside lane again, this then became a torrent. The next gantry clearly had the red cross sign over the outside lane and also had cameras across all lanes. However, these were not flashing when I went under the gantry and had other cars were going past me in the outside lane. About 5 minutes later a Met car came up in the outside lane and was basically making everyone in the lane move over, as they should have been to be honest. The Met car was equipped with ANPR cameras so I guess that these would have recorded the red crosses above the outside lane and also the number plates of the cars that were in the lane at the time.
So...........are there any statistics available for such situations to prove the lane closure rules are enforced as it wasn't obvious at all that the gantry cameras were in use despite the lane being closed.
