At the weekend in a tourist attraction car park a guy accidentally dropped a bag from his car as he was getting in to it.
The tourist attraction is basically a national trust car park at a scenic location, but there aren't any buildings/offices there apart from public toilets.

Anyhow, I went over to pick up the bag with the intention that the guy would see me doing this, stop his car and then I'd be able to give it back.
This didn't happen, as he left the car park and didn't return within the next 15mins whilst me and the missus had a bit of packed lunch.

In the bag is an expensive watch, some rings (wedding I think) and a few other personal items that may be of value, but nothing with a name.

I do have the guy's reg plate and car model. Any way to find his address in order to post these items to him, being the nice chappie that I am?

(I think I may already know the answer to this - probably a data protection issue or something - but worth a try)

What would you do if it was your bag? You'd get in contact with the place you lost it, right? And the Police?

There y'go.

I'd imagine given the circumstances the police should be able to contact the registered keeper.

There is a possibility that the DVLA may be able to help as i understand there is certain circumstances that they can release this information (no idea if this is one of those though)

Just had a quick search on this..... would that be the V888 form enquiry?

You hand it in to the police, or you can be guilty of stealing by finding.

Not if he's got no dishonest intent, which he clearly doesn't.

I think you still have to hand it in to the police.

If you said " well I had a look for the owner but couldn't find them so kept it" that would still be theft, it needs to be handed in.

If not claimed in a month or is it three then you have the right to claim it and it is all legal and above board.

Nice chap or not, why go to the trouble of faffing around with the DVLA?

If it was me I would hand it in to a police station of my convenience, along with the info you have (where found, car reg no etc.)

Job's a good un.

Police station all day every day. Quick photo of the contents before handing it over and off you go.

Or start a facebook campaign, which appears what everyone and their dog are doing at the moment.
