Good evening,

I have just got off the phone with my mother and I have a parking fine to pay.
The thing is though is that there wasn't a ticket on my car. If there was i would have paid it as it is a council ticket.
Anyway, one month and ten days after me parking in said place I received a letter telling me to cough up. This the first I have heard of the ticket.
Where do I stand with this? I'm pretty annoyed tbh as I didn't know I had the ticket!

Cheers,

Bob

You don't always get a ticket. If it's a camera controlled car park/area, they send them out in the post.

Hasn't Eric ( of cheese and Pickle fame) recently proclaimed this practice to be unfair?

It was a ticket from Torbay Council allegedly for 'not displaying a ticket'. I was parked on the road at the time. I'm pretty sure I had paid too however I don't have the receipt as it was a month and a half ago.

Councils always take photos. Sometimes they put them online, just ask them.

That's in this bill, which as you can see is pretty close to passing. As it stands, camera parking enforcement will be banned except outside schools and at bus stops (the parking industry, ever mindful of our safety and absolutely nothing else, managed to get those concessions made).

It's not set in stone yet, or course: herewego and TwigTheWonderKid will be bravely leading a last-ditch parliamentary delegation tomorrow whose aim will be to get the ban dropped from the bill. Failing that, the PH Car-Haters' Union will be holding a candlelit vigil sometime next month (bike parking only), at which they will all simultenously blow the candles out, to signify the dark, dark future ahead for us all.

If people are not sent £140 tickets for stopping momentarily on pointless DYLs on deserted side streets then life as we know it will cease to exist. As we are all too aware, before councils started abusing parking enforcement to make money, it was utter anarchy, and motorists parking on top of children was a daily event. Our guardians of what's decent and proper are valiantly running off flyers picturing pitiful kids trapped under cars, but will it be enough? If these people don't succeed then they may just have to flounce off and leave the country! How will we manage without them interfering in our lives?
