Canary Wharf: Private Road? No speed limit

I have assumed for some time that teh Canary Wharf Estate in Londons Docklands is private property. There are no posted speed limits and in any event can you get done for speeding. I only ask because I was in a cab the otehr night and the Bib pulled up over for an eratic lane change (unlike a cabie lol).

I'm sure it wouldn't go down to well but I didn't think they had any traffic related powers on private roads.

Anyone know for sure

Interesting point, otherwise they could turn up at the British GP at Silverstone and nick everyone and put a scamera van at the finish line

Think you can get done for some traffic offences on private roads where the public have access e.g. supermarket car parks, Canary Wharf...

Powers extend to any road or highway to which the public have access. So as i assume Canary Warf has public access on the roads, all normal powers apply. (Section 192 Road Traffic Act) Hence why supermarket car parks and the like also are roads as per the Road Traffic Act.
Silverstone track wont apply as the track is not a road to which the public have access.

Some laws will only apply to public roads (a road repairable at the publics expense)

Common sense says you're right slidder. I haven't seen any posted limits. Again I presume you assume 30

Yeah, if there are street lamps in a built up area it will be a 30 unless signposted otherwise. (street lamps cannot be more that 183 meters apart)
