Car written off but not on database
Discussion
So my car was written off in October last year due to it needing a new bumper (2mph crash - complete joke but that's another story!).
Anyway I was tolddon the phone by the insurer that it was written off and would likely need a VIC before I could tax it etc.
Anyways, tax is due up soon so I used the DVLA vehicle checker to see if there was a VIC marker....there isn't. So I've asked a mate who works for the company that provides that data for the car checking services and he's looked on their database and the master and no sign of it being recorded as a write off.
Have I got lucky here? They've paid me out and everything months ago and I'm still using the car with the slightly cracked bumper. Should I be concerned or just forget and move on?

You got lucky, forget it and move on.I had the same with a cat B rather than C. It was flooded inside, they wanted to scrap it but (with some legal help) I bought it back and had it professionally restored. No record on HPI, no issues with Tax/MOT.
Only a new owner would have to put this car through a VIC, as far as I am aware (in simple terms, the car is remaining with the original owner and there is no chance that he is buying a rung vehicle because he, errm, already owns it
).
Sounds like the OP was talking to someone at his insurance company who was unaware of this...
From memory (and I could be wrong on this), the only issue might be that the RK (the OP) won't get annual reminders to purchase VED (it can still be purchased using the V5C reference number, so it's no biggie as long as he remembers to buy it).

That's what I'm intending to do, just didn't want to have missed anything obvious!I had the same with a cat B rather than C. It was flooded inside, they wanted to scrap it but (with some legal help) I bought it back and had it professionally restored. No record on HPI, no issues with Tax/MOT.
