Hi all
Thanks for the replies.
I think I see where I've gone wrong. Whilst this sign was present (I parked in front of it) there was also a single yellow line, I've understood the sign just fine, but ignored the yellow line. Being London, I guess that's what they've ticketed me on. Bugger, better pay up.
Thanks for the replies.

I thought that single yellows were enforced in conjunction with what the sign next to it says. Is that not the case then? Thanks for the replies.

For the rest of the country, I believe that is the case. However, London being "special"

Single yellow line
Parking is not allowed:
Monday to Friday 7am - 7pm
Saturday 7am - 11am (except Bank and Public Holidays)
If different times apply a black and white time plate displays the controlled parking hours for that specific location
When the controlled hours have ended you are allowed to park on a single yellow line EXCEPT at dropped kerbs/raised carriageways and footways
There were no additional plates with times, it was Thursday between 7am and 7pm. If only I had checked before going. The total cost for me and a two colleagues to work in London for a few days - getting on for £150. Madness.

A single yellow line MUST have an accompanying sign showing times of validity.
Surely?
They must have signs somewhere, but as we all know those signs can be hard to find and harder to comprehend.Surely?
Each London borough (and the City of London does not count as a "borough", and it also has its own police force separate from the Met) does however have its own parking rules.
It gets particularly annoying when one is on the border of two boroughs, so that the two sides of the road are governed by different rules.

You are probably aware of this, but those rules are for the "City of London", which is just a small piece of "London". Rules for things such as single yellows vary by borough, of which there are 32 others.
Yes, you're quite right. On closer inspection, Islington Borough, who issued the ticket, follow similar rules to the above. Jazzy Jefferson said:

Most London boroughs make use of CPZ (controllled parking zones). In these the yellow line restrictions are posted on signs that have to be present on each entrance to the CPZ, so there does not have to be a plate by each yellow line. he trouble with this is there aree so many signs in London that you cannot realistically be expected to spot them or even know the rules as they vary between CPZ and CPZ, but you are bound by htem unless you can show they do not conform to the TSGRD.
