Criminalising the public.

Just watched the program on channel 4 about how the Government are criminalising the general law abiding public.
It highlighted;
the new environment officers, giving people £50 fines for throwing cigerette ends on the floor (backed up by two coppers with obviously no crimes to solve),
people who dare to skim an empty bus lane, apparently raising over £2 million for red Ken,
Van loads of traffic wardens shipped in to ticket parents collecting children from schools (with the local council muppet saying that they do not target this, ha ha),
and last but by all means not least, the hunt to try and get every safe driver with points on his license for speeding. It had a big dick copper Steve Walsh trying to justify speed cameras by saying 'we need to target those most likely to case risk' erm so that wouldn't be people speeding then.
The report also went on to say that speeding convictions had trebled in the last five years, whilst deaths had slowly risen.
The reporter also wondered why they could not get any response to this from government etc (apart from the police chief mentioned whose comment only meant that speed cameras are not there to reduce casualties).

I thought that the Steve Walsh bloke said that scameras saved lives in some instances but did not stop dangerous driving or drink driving etc & should be placed in very specific locations. I can't remember the rest but the tone of his answer was that there was far too many of them and not enough being done to stop real dangers on teh road.
Under this climate I do not want to have anything to do with the government, council, authorities or the police. If any of these organisations need information or assistance off me then I do not wish provide any.
If everybody did this then perhaps they would have to start listening.
They may be able to come up with many unjust and stupid laws or overzealous enforcement of minor issues, but they all still need a plumber when a pipe bursts or an electrician when the lights don't work.

Yesterday I saw two cars racing in front of me, they took both lanes of a single carraigeway road around a popular 90degree blind corner - the most frightening thing I've seen for a long time.
If anyone had been on the corner coming they other way the resultant 80mph+ head on collision probably would have been fatal.
People do this type of thing now because they know that traffic police are waiting on deserted straight roads for speeders and easy money, and have no respect or fear of ever getting caught.
Hopefully while safe drivers are being ticketed for making safe progress louts like these will be using their own form of Darwin selection against a tree, rather than an innocent family that dies to fund the tax scam camera scheme.

Not anti-smoking, just anti-litter. If you're a smoker you can damn well find a proper place to dispose of your used cigarette, just like the rest of us when we've finished with a tin of Coke etc.

Yep, agree entirley, I see what you describe almost on a daily basis! The police, it seems, have been mutated into glorified traffic wardens, reeling in the cash (use to be criminals!!) for the government.
I have lost respect when I realised I am shown none!

Saw a comfortable record number of plod for Norfolk yesterday.
Were they patrolling the dangerous roads ?
Were they checking on the dodgy bits of Great Yarmouth and Norwich, notorious for never seeing a copper ?
No, they were setting up road blocks on the back roads to catch the local hunt. At least three cars, and a van.

Funny you should mention the hunt! On Boxing Day, the same day my sister in law was burgled for the 2nd time, my collegue told me that he and his friends were down the local pub, celebrating with his friends the Boxing Day hunt (farming community), when they spotted a policeman writing tickets on some of the cars parked outside. Apparently, a car was 6 inches over a double yellow line!! After a heated argument, the police man left, after he couldn't answer the guy's question as to whether his appearence there was politically motivated! This place where the cop drove to is over 6 miles out of Gloucester!
If any cops wish to check out this story, please do,, it's true, unlike the bile we have to swallow from government and it's puppets.

Not anti-smoking, just anti-litter. If you're a smoker you can damn well find a proper place to dispose of your used cigarette, just like the rest of us when we've finished with a tin of Coke etc.

What? You mean you no longer have a bin at home? You shouldn't be chucking fresh cigarette butts into litter bins anyway unless you're trying to start a fire!
Funnily enough there are plenty of bins round where i am but the majority a just blackened streaks of plastic hanging off posts because the local kids thought pouring lighter fuel in after the stacks of dog turds and then lighting it would be amusing...
I agree littering is bad, but having a person following smokers to see if they drop their butt, is a tad over zealous. Perhaps they should follow criminals to catch them?
As for the school run, yes they are a pain in the arse, but if they live far away from the school, in some cases the parents need to drive. Having wardens shipped in to ticket them when they go in the school to collect the kids (to stop them being picked up by any stranger), its just not really right.

On the littering argument - always found it odd that someone can quite happily carry a lighter/matches for lighting their cigarette, yet carrying something to put the used butt in is beyond them. Hey ho. Littering at cashpoints winds me up as well...why bother requesting "Cash with receipt" if you're just going to throw the sodding receipt on the floor?! Quite apart from anything else, it's a huge waste of paper.

You are right on that score, and I was guilty of doing this, and can't really justify myself for flicking the nub ends out of the window. For me personally though, I always hated smoking and the smell and mess associated with it, so I quit last September, still miss the actuall smoking after dinner/coffee though!

If you get actually stopped by a BiB nowadays...the chances are you'll be treated with more respect now than at any time in the existance of the British police force...
I am sure that is true, and I would rather be stopped by a 'human' than having a letter through my letterbox anyday
It's just the way the motorist is treated as a whole by silly policies that I don't like, and the way we're meant to feel like nothing less than child murderers if we're caught, at least, that is how it is percieved in the media and ever more stringent 'iniciatives'

Thats true. I just wish the police would stand up and say "We are NOT doing this kind of thing anymore!".

I'm sure you're referring to 'speed enforcement'...but personally I think that's way down on the list...
Treating criminals in the fashion which me must etc....should be the first thing changed...
Did you know that before Tony Martin (farmer) was released from custody, the Home Office consulted with Brendon Feardon (the burglar that survived)..about whether or not he thought it a good idea...
There really are more important changes in law enforcement and the keeping of peace to be changed before speed enforcement..
