Ive agreed to buy my step dads auris once ive managed to sell my car.
The auris is in Guildford, i live in Dorset.
Its signed over to my name, and i have taxed it.
Insurance is the problem.
Once i bring it back it will be sat on the drive for 1-3 months going no where.
Can i arrange a tempory policy just enough to bring it back?
A years policy (1000 miles per year) is £300 (for my dad to drive it, £600 for me)

Would a tempory policy cause issues with every ANPR between there and here?
Thanks
Ben

The car will have to be SORN after the temporary insurance has lapsed.

If you've taxed it, you'll need to insure it. The only way you can avoid insuring it when not using it would be to SORN it.

fk.
So i need to stick a tempory policy on it asap?
How does it work regarding the sorn refund, only just sent the V5 off, so the address wont change to mine for a while.
And the current owner (step dad) is about to move to switzerland.

Ive insured my dad on it for a year, £270.
But at least i wont have issues if i need to move it around whilst i wait to sell mine.
Cheers

How are you insured to drive it if you've insured it in your dad's name?

Im not
Its insured under my dads name so he can drive it back. When i sell my car i will cancel the insurance and reinsure it using my NCB.

so to be clear...

You are RK
You are the insurance policy holder
You have named your Dad as main and only driver?

It's very simple.

To be taxed, it must be on MID as insured.
If it's not on MID, it must be SORNed.
For somebody to drive it, they must be insured to drive it.

No more, no less.

Put it on a low loader get it delivered to your home leave it on the drive until you've sold your car.

Depending upon your age the cost of a temp policy and everything that comes with that means it's probably cheaper to get it delivered on a low loader as above suggested.

Or be really cheeky and use the cooling off period and get insurance then cancel straight away when you get it back.

Can't you get a mate to deliver it as long as they are insured to drive other cars.

I'd offer but I don't do Auris biggrin

Doesn't the car in question still need to be insured though?

Do you hold insurance on your own car currently? Whenever I've needed to move a car, I just add it as a temporary car to my current insurance (Elephant) for £20-ish a week. Lets me move them between garages/to an MOT etc with no worries about starting and cancelling new policies etc. Try ringing your insurer and asking.

if you go for a short term or day policy to shift it you might want to look at lay-up insurance to cover against fire and theft while it is sat on the driveway. At least you will have peace of mind.
