Recieved NIP - Non Uk license

Got flashed while visiting family in somerset a couple of weeks ago, Driving a non uk (or EU) registered car.

Have now recieved the NIP (which was a suprise, i did'nt think they would bother)
i hold a non uk license (Guernsey). While reading the info that accompained the NIP, is says that i cannot forfeit my license for points, and it has to go to court. What is likely to happen? Will they chase me?

The offence was 53 in a 30 (30 strech of a 60 "A" road.

If you have a UK address (whether yours or one where summons can be served), they will chase you! If you are non resident, they may eventually drop it if you are hard to track down.

Summons can be served on someone other than the addressee if it is at the last known address. If they have managed to track down a non UK registration to a UK address, I thionk you may have a battle on your hands. If you become too slippery, you may even eventually be taken from your bed in the early hours if they can find you, to be put before a court. this is only likely if the summons is served and you fail to respond to it. A warrant will then be issued for your arrest.

Brothers Dutch girlfriend had this happen to her. She went to court and complained that she was being treated unfairly because she was a foreigner.

She would have pleaded guilty to the NIP by post and taken the £30 fine but as she was forced to go to court because she was a foreigner the minimum fine was £80. (the fines were something like that anyway) They let her off.

Haaa, no but i do know that stretch of road very well indeed!
Its the A38 at henlade, the bit just before you join the M5 at taunton. The one with the keep your distance chevrons marked into the road surface.

How so? Surely it should be left or posted to the last known address. Then if there's no response it should be personal service otherwise there would be doubt that the driver ever received it.

I'm a Guernsey resident, driving a guernsey registered car, holding a Guernsey License and was caught while on holiday in the Uk.

I'm probably best off just responding & paying the fine (anyone know approx how much?), but don't want to just write the cheque if they cannot enforce the penalty.

Service means just that. There are several options for service. Leaving it with someone at the last known place of abode is OK. Just the same as posting it to that address. Whether the person actually gets it is another matter !
