"In the run-up this week to the North West 200 motorcycle event in Northern Ireland, our roads will become much busier with motorcycle traffic and officers will be out on patrol to ensure that those passing through are adhering to the laws of the road."Were they trying to get caught?

Three motorcyclists have been caught speeding at more than 130mph in Kirkcudbrightshire.
The bikers, from Sheffield, South Yorkshire, face charges after being clocked at more than double the 60mph limit on the A75.
Silly speed - but also:The bikers, from Sheffield, South Yorkshire, face charges after being clocked at more than double the 60mph limit on the A75.

130?
Very poor effort. Were they stuck in 4th or something??
Even their Inspector agrees Very poor effort. Were they stuck in 4th or something??

"Insp Neil Hewitson said: These are ridiculous speeds on a public road and officers will continue to patrol all our roads in the region to promote safe and responsible motorcycling as part of Operation Zenith."

Obviously police officers never drive at such 'ridiculous speeds' on a public road, so they are speaking from the moral high ground.

The standard of driving on the A75 is universally dreadful no matter what time of year it is. The road has loads of well-sighted straights for overtaking and yet folk always choose the worst places to try an overtake. Things got noticeably worse when they started more stringently enforcing HGV40 a few years ago, obviously you get the Irish lorries tanking along at 70-80mph but interspersed with them are a lot who stick rigorously to 40mph which ends up causing huge queues and subsequently ill-judged multiple vehicle overtakes.

The A75 also has the added bonus of Irish lorries with no working speed limiters....back in a previous life I worked in the Sheriff Court at Dumfries. Some of the speeds Irish truckers were caught at were mind-blowing!
Ah, that explains a few years ago struggling to overtake a UK HGV going up the steep hill in a transit van (I was lane two on the uphill section where its two lanes up and one down) and been overtaken by an Irish registered HGV as he moved over the double white lines to overtake me (I was doing 60+)Janluke said:
We have a place down by Gatehouse of Fleet and even as a biker 130 is going some on those roads. As already mentioned they have only themselves to blame the Police are all over the A75 around NW200 time.
130 is not even top of third gear on most litre bikes these days ,not difficult at all on the road in question. as has already been mentioned, around nw 200 time the galloway forest route is much preferred for those unable to control the right hand.wc98 said:

How does driving at 40mph in a 40 mph limit cause a huge queue?Gassing Station | Speed, Plod & the Law | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
