Just wanted to pick the legal brains amongst you. I admit was driving down a rural road at 38mph and as I came around the corner there was a manned speed camera. days later I had recieved a fine and 3 points. It had never occured to me to report this to my insurance company. Does anyone know if this is a legal requirement? And what is the effect on your insurance premium.

It should not affect your insurance but it is probably worth notifying them regardless.

You say 'days later you received a fine and 3 points'.. Surely you were issued with a Notice of Intended Prosecution first ?? If this has been filled in and sent back then too late, if not, have you checked www.pepipoo.co.uk ??

edit to add: I must read the posts properly If the scamera was manned then I take it you were pulled over and cautioned ?

Unlikely it'll effect your insurance this time round as 3 points (SP30 I'm assuming) are pretty common. Best tell them about them now, as if you have a prang it could be used against you.

Once detectors are banned by this government, we can expect more of this, i.e. manned mobile cash generators.

DEFINITELY tell your insurers! As mentioned they might get a bit funny if you prang your car and they find out - which they will if you have to show your driving licence. It might cost £10 extra on your premium, but that is a small price to pay. (literally )

It shouldn't affect your premium as 3 points seems to be the norm these days.

Oh and welcome to the criminal world!

My insurance company routinely don't penalise for SPxx endorsements as "even the underwriter chap has 3 points"

It's not a criminal conviction unless you go to court - that's why it's called a (fixed) Penalty.

Indeed. So if I go and tell my insurers about my 110 mph antics, with no shunts and not getting caught by BiB, that should be better still.

They'll be paying me!

Best wishes all,
Dave.

Depends on the policy of your particular insurer. Some want to know straight away, others at renewal.
