Rust coming through from not replacing full arch and other areas

i never stated do the arch lip, in my understand it meant full arch up to the beltline of the van
i have been charged £110 parts just for the arches, and I have lots of mid work photographic evidence to show that the full arches were not fitted.
If by "full arch up to the beltline", you mean right up to the recess for the door slider, then that's two panels from the factory. That seam just above the arch lip, that's the end of the arch. Above that is a different panel - and MUCH more invasive to repair. Some of the parts suppliers sell a "tall" arch - which includes a section above that seam, cutting into the body side panel. But doing the WHOLE body side up to the slider recess? That'd be extreme. If you could find the panel.

Whether a whole arch panel was fitted or not, a whole arch panel would have to be bought - even if it was then chopped up to use for repair sections.
The rust staining through the seam is because it's not been properly protected.
Go over to Club80-90, and find some of Metal Mickey's body resto threads, with heavy photographic documentation.
I wouldn't judge a garage by anything but previous experience especially one's that do resto's, I'm currently working on a RST escort that was ''restored'' by a ''specialist''. its a friend of a friends I assessed blasted+primed, then because the owner didn't want to wait until I could do it, it was sent to a garage with top notch set-up, two oven's, 69 mustang + other classic yanks, two Ferraris etc. being worked on/ruined. posh looking place, the owner pulled the car when he seen it in filler, every inch of it, 15-18mm deep in places, I've removed all the A-holes work and replaced the inner+mid sill, batt-tray etc,etc the quality of there work was offensive but it's not uncommon especially when dealing with rust,
and also I work from a shed at the house,
from the pictures posted I can see that the people that worked on your van haven't the least bit of skill, the arch either the upper lip is rusty in the seam or they never treated or removed all the rust, just shoddy work really, its hard to find a straight line in them pics, your van was ruined by a bunch of goons, lucky/unlucky for my buddy/customer he knew me + I'm a oldfordfan, not many people are willing to fix someone else's colossal mess, and of coarse.. my customer paid 2.5k for work, that I removed and have to be paid to redo+ remove the rust that wasn't removed the first time, a lot of ball-ache, this escort won't know how close to the crusher it was
bottom line the guys aren't capable of fixing your van, and most others will probably want double, if they won't refund you or pay to have it sorted go legal, unfortunately , not a cool situation to be in

High level summary (sorry):
You didn't pay enough money to get a good job done
You haven't a chance of getting a good job from these bozos
You haven't a chance of getting money back
You'll have to go somewhere proper to get a good job
What would I do?
1 find a decent bodyshop
2 make these guy's lives very hard to get some of your money back
3 almost certainly have to give up on item 2 and move on
Bert

This may help. You see that only the arch lip has been replaced whereas surely to truely remove the rust (and why it comes back after two weeks) is that not enough of the arch was replaced.

That IS the full arch. The bit above that is the body side. Some arch repair panels include part of that but, like I said, that's much more invasive work - and it doesn't look like yours was bad.
The reason the rust came back is because the seam that was created was inadequately sealed and protected, not that they left rotten metal in the body side part of the lip. If that lip had been rotten, there'd have been nothing to weld the arch to. If they'd let metal in to part of that lip, you'd see it in the body side.

I'd agree with all of that. £900 doesn't sound like nearly enough for any kind of quality workmanship on a job that size. Piss poor prep, piss poor work and piss poor finishing. You didn't pay enough money to get a good job done

I think you may have to put this one down to experience and move on.

Is there any legal backing similar to buyers rights that could be applied in this situation?
Not going to comment on the quality of work or the price paid etc., just trying to answer the question. The legislation : http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1982/29
One explanation of it : http://www.which.co.uk/consumer-rights/regulation/...
Without peeing on anybody's pride , unless you have some vehicle related skills why oh why buy any type of vehicle that is going to require a fortune just to get through an mot , something that size will cost £1k per side just to paint properly , add all the welding repairs , you paid £900 for a £3k part restoration .
Join a related club and seek recommended workshops and have a look at some previous work and take somebody who knows what to look for .
