Can you use the information gained from Askmid & Check if a vehicle is taxed - GOV.UK which is for
your own personal use to report to the police of other illegal vehicles??

the strongly worded warning on the askmid website which you must tick a box to accept makes it very clear that technically you cannot legally obtain the information, other than for legitimate personal use.
The dvla tax check is public record any one can use the information for any purpose

Yes

I use both these sites to report abandoned vehicles to the council as they need to be untaxed and have no insurance to be classed as abandoned.

Definitely not, as a private individual.

You can. If it shows up as uninsured, you can simply just call up and say 'I also believe the vehicle is uninsured' They will do their own checks to confirm anyway.

The only reason I ask is, right now in the turning opposite me I see:

Car 1 Taxed, No ins, No MOT

Car 2 No tax, No ins, No MOT

Car 3 No tax, Insured, No MOT

Car 4 No tax, No ins, MOT'd

What would you do ??

I may very well do what you are considering, but I would do it knowing that I had misused the database - you have to confirm that it is your car when you enter the number.

you can simply report them as untaxed, where the idea they need to be untaxed and confirmed to be uninsured comes from i not sure, but it's very easy to report an untaxed vehicle here
https://forms.dft.gov.uk/report-an-untaxed-vehicle...

you can also report abandon vehicle on most council websites, you don't usually usually need to give any evidence, you can just spot a car which looks like it might be abandoned and let the council know, they can very easily check for themselves if it is legal to be there, you don't need to reveal to anyone that you may have technically committed a crime to discover it may not be insured.

Try this site https://www.vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/, then check with DVLA ( who can confirm that vehicles have not got relevant documents). Next step 101- 4 cars in one job lot- gets the Inspector a lot of brownie points.

Bear in mind that the MID is not totally accurate as shown by posts on here. I believe it is not compulsory for insurance companies to submit reg numbers to them. Also those companies that do can take up to 14 days and it's not unknown for them to make mistakes.

why would the Police need OP's sleuthing? - report your concerns as they stand and leave it to them

Cars could be "company" owned so could be covered by "blanket" policy

Please make sure the vehicles aren't exempt from MOTs before you report them.

I'm currently inundated with reports from amateur internet sleuths about taxis and private hire vehicles without MOTs.

They're all exempt.

likethe idiots posting Police vehicles and fire appliances as not having MoTs ...

although interestingly Ambulances have MoTs from 1 year ( but aren't required to have the kind of servicing set up that LGVs and PCVs are by the TCs / DVSA)

I usually have the same opinion about leaving other people to themselves if they are causing no bother to anyone, but think he may have fair issue with one person taking the piss storing 4 cars in a turning space opposite his house.

You don't mind the fact that uninsured drivers like this cause higher premiums for the rest of us?
