Mobile Speed Camera
Discussion
It clearly is summer time, and Police Scotland are obviously short on cash for their party pot!! Spotted a mobile camera van twice this week in Kirkintilloch, as well as a mobile emissions testing farce!! Don't see any for ages, then two in one week. Gives you loads of confidence in our police when they make it so obvious they want your money!!! And before any smart a***s state if you don't want caught, don't speed, I wasn't and neither was anyone else!
Welcome to a 'free' independant semi autonomous state. Run by power hungry politicians dictating over a population less than the county of Yorkshire.
Next they'll make it that your classed as a drunk driver for having one pint at lunchtime on a sunny Sunday afternoon.

We have a great "safety" mobile van near us.It's right in the bottom of a large dip and of course, despite having a fixed camera at the top of said dip, the police have realised that almost anyone will likely creep over the 30 mph limit just to make it out of the dip and up the large hill the other side. You are only over the limit for a matter of seconds (and never by much) and your speed naturally drops back due to the incline.
Five or six mph over a limit for a matter of seconds and they chalk you up.Absolute thieving scum if you ask me.The only positive is that people almost always warn each other that the parasites are there.
One of the down sides of their chosen spot is that vehicles have to select a much lower gear which increases noise and undoubtedly fumes.HGV's tend to have the biggest impact and I feel sorry for those living on that road. It's not uncommon for them to have to scream their way back up the hill whilst selecting numerous gears.

One 'safety' van near where I live sits at the end of a dual-carriageway section which comes to an end on a bend.
So as people are coming off the gas from 70mph to 60mph, many are startled on first sight of the van that they may not be slowing down quick enough and slam on the brakes. Causing all sorts of hilarity and danger to van operatives and general public.
But if it is raising a bit of cash then its all good in the eyes of these scamera types.

If you weren't speeding and no one else was what does it matter? I'm sure everyone's views would change if a loved one got knocked over by someone speeding.
And what about all the people killed by people gernerall6y driving like pillocks, looking where they are going, being unable to use a mirror and unable to find the indicator stalk? It appears they are fine so long as they are within the speed limit. It's just a cynical, easy 60 quid and nothing much to do with road safety.
A question to PH’s in the know.
A lot of posts state that the Camera Van that their “friend” was caught by was very close to a speed limit change. I know they have a very long range and I believe the image produced shows the distance from the camera to the offending vehicle. Do they have to state the exact location of the speed camera in relation to the limit change or would they not locate themselves where there could be any doubt?

I agree. Seems there are those that like to jump on the band-wagon in knowledge that the black and white nature of text within a law will always support their position to win an argument/discussion, regardless of the actual content and sillyness of how the law is applied.

No chance of anyone getting knocked over where I see most of these mobile cameras. They are strategically positioned just to f
k you over.If any of my family or friends got run over there, I would tell them they were stupid. Are you honestly suggesting a £100 fine is justified for being five or six mph over a limit (a limit which many would suggest is too low anyway) for only a matter of seconds?
That's what happens near me.People simply give their vehicles a fraction more gas to climb the large hill. That's it.
Either that, or they sit strategically at the bottom of a DC where the speed limit drops to 50 mph (even though there is still nothing around you but a DC), just out of view and catch people for not easing off in time.
They also set up shop just past a fixed mobile on an uphill section of road I know because people often use the spot to pass slow moving HGV's.Again, only for the briefest of moments will most be over the limit; but why bother actually parking somewhere where you can make a difference to road safety, when you can park up and earn a few quid?
You are utterly deluded if you think money isn't the priority at many of these sites.

Yes.Everyone knows the rules. Most people speed and knowingly do so, if you get caught, man up and pay.
I've been caught once at 36 in a 30 before courses were offered. I knew I was speeding (Speedo suggested 40) so what's the point in kicking up a fuss. Accept your mistake and move on in life.
There was a big operation on the M6 Toll on a Thursday afternoon last week. Notorious accident hotspot that it is required a full team.
1 police officer on a bridge with a gun
4 police vehicles (3 of which were unmarked) all on the hardshoulder with someone receiving their latest tax bill
I'm pretty sure that amount of resource could be better dedicated to saving lives.
