Unmarked police car reg. number

Is it legal to publish the registration numbers of unmarked police cars on web sites such as this ?

If so, maybe a sticky could be started with a bit of "naming and shaming" ?

At least unmarked police cars have real policemen inside them! Save your objections for the unmanned speed cameras!

Just checked ebay to see if any cheeky chappies had any "used" gatsos for sales None found though !

It would be quite hard to cross reference a car you thought looked suspicious to a list that you'd printed off PH anyhow

I don't think there is anything positive about posting registration numbers of unmarked police vehicles on forums such as this....For a variety of reasons;

Firstly, the majority of numpties caught by BiB in unmarked vehicles don't actually notice the vehicle, let along the VRM..

Secondly, unmarked vehicles should be positively praised on here; as has been mentioned contain real police officers instead of Gatsos and in addition the majority of offences they detect are driving standard offences; not necessarily speeding offences. IME

True though...unmarked vehicles are superb for detecting and dealing with the offences we all hate;
tail gaiting, road rage, lane hopping and hogging etc etc..

Don't get me wrong; speeders are also detected. However, you'll find it's the very high speeders or the inappropriate speeders that get caught. A case of quality, not quantity...as it's so easy otherwise in an unmarked cars to 'knock people off'...like shelling peas..

They are also superb for finding scrote vehicles etc...who don't leave the motorway upon seeing a load of reflective tape on a boot....etc

Trouble is; there isn't enough of them as the gaffers fear the public wont see the police presense; ie Marked/battenburg car....

Unless the Police co-operated in this, there would be a lot of numbers included that are in fact nothing to do with the police!

I regularly see references on here about unmarked Police vehicles which appear to be wrong!

The brains of many drivers is very questionable....For the last week or so, i've been on a tactical pursuit/containment course and have travelled over most of the country....

I've been in a variety of Volvo cars; S60, V70, S70...all white, with POLICE in red letter on the boot (about 5 inches high and 20 inches long)..together with a Force police crest on the driver's door and front passenger door.....

The course has meant that we were only 'deputable' for emergencies, so no stoppping vehicles for speeding, no seat belts etc etc...

Anyway; when not on the exercises we travelled at 'normal' speeds and the amount of cars that flew past us on the motorway was amazing....
You can picture it; white Volvo, POLICE on boot, crest on door, aerials....doing 70mph in lane one....
Would you blat past at 100mph or more? No..me neither...

In addition...when we were making progress...I found myself following vehicles in lane 3 at 100mph+....on occasions for well over a mile....!!!!
If a numpty is happy to travel at 100mph+ on a motorway, hogging lane 3 with a white Volvo behind them, containing two short haired males...they deserve all they get...
